What a horrible situation for Austria... Assuming Canadian win, if France defeats Latvia in overtime, both France and Latvia get rescued, while Austria is relegated. I think Germany and Austria did this to Tunisia at the 1982 football World Cup in Spain, and I hope this is not going to hapoen today (not even accidentally). Austria were less than 3 minutes away from being rescued in the top division, until Germany tied it late in yesterday's game. Austria seems to have lots of Pech (bad luck) this year! :amazed:

If Austria can get at least a regulation tie in this game, they're safe. Canadians have already clinched 1st place, so they could take it easy here, resting for the play-offs.

Close it was Algeria that suffered in the disgrace of Gijon. And I doubt they'll go easy.

Thanks for the correction. I only remember the desperation on their faces, but forgot their nationality.

I don't think it's really possible to intentionally steer that other game towards a France overtime win. However, if that game is still tied with a few minutes left in regulation... well... :amazed:

The odds on a draw in the Latvia-France game have dropped from 4.40 to around 3.00, according to some bookies. 3.00 on a draw in a hockey game is something I've never seen before, so I guess a lot of people are expecting both teams to do exactly that.

It's sad but you can't really blame anyone for thinking about that scenario. I certainly hope nothing quite as outrageous as Germany vs. Austria back then in Gijon ever occurs again in any sport. Anyway, it's a lot easier to play for a specific result in a low-scoring game like football, than it is in hockey. Also, it's much easier to intentionally lose, than it is to tie a hockey game.

Crosby not playing today. Didn't hear why.

Hall-Couturier-Eberle
O'Reilly-Giroux-Seguin
Mackinnon-Duchene-Spezza
Schenn-Ennis-Toffoli/Eakin

According to TSN

Edit: Guess Crosby just being rested.

I heard them say Crosby is just getting some rest.

Good riddance, he's got the worst +/- on the team.

I hope I don't need a sarcasm smiley on this one.

Let's go Canada!!

Austria, your cakes are magnificent and out of this world (though your Mozartkugeln can suck it), but this is Canada's game!

Oh hey, Duchene scored to make it 2-0!
