As ridiculous as it sounded to me a while ago, keeping Coolen as the head coach and Zirnis as the assistant might not be that bad of an idea after all.

They've effectively led the team since Nolan was signed by the Sabres.

And we're not looking half-bad without a bunch of key players.

I'm not sure if I'm a fan of this. Coolen has always had to deal mostly with the C and B team fringe players, and they didn't look so hot under his leadership for the most part. It's always been when Nolan comes in and demands effort that the team shines. I don't see them giving Coolen the same respect. There are plenty of other better known Canadian coaches who are out of work and would fit the bill. I don't want them going back to the Euro/Soviet style guys who stalled their progress for nearly two decades, although Skudra might be an exception considering his NA experience.

Good job Finns - getting penalties for, I suspect, a couple of our leading players with the help of some of your 50 cent players.. :D

Even if they can't play, it is good to see that at least there is some emotions.

Cipulis-Vasiļjevs-Ņiživijs are showing the hockey I don't ever want to see from the Latvian team. That's why we need guys like Nolan!

Is this turning in yet another game 'of great character' that will turn into an 'undeserved' loss just because we can't seem to be able to score the puck?

I was confident about us and not without a reason. I have seen Team Finland dominating game like latvia so many times and opponent scoring goals I know hockey is not puck posession contest.
