Weak penalty tough. Masalskis was out of his zone and Mantyla was pushed on him.

I am a bit ashamed to admit that this is the first game of this tournament I have watched. The playoffs are taking all my interest.
 
Yup, Finland looks underwhelming and I think we looked better overall.

I'm not sure we can keep this up for another 2 periods though, especially not with just 5 decent defenders and just 11 forwards left on the bench.

Yup. These hits are pretty much like from Slap Shot movie... Did you see that Latvian clipping to Finnish D-s legs with as**** :D

And then there was annoyed Jere making hit, ending up in blood as always.. Though it was clean, it was hard and Latvian had bad luck hitting he's head to the plexiglass.
 
I fear whoever will replace Nolan as the head coach. Without Nolan, the team would still look like the weak-ass Beresņevs type of team. The only Latvian coach I would be intrigued to have as the head coach is Pēteris Skudra. There's no way Latvian nat team would be this ceaseless and amazing under Ābols, Znaroks or any other Latvian coaches.

yeah if you'd watch this game with no context you'd think latvians and finns hate eachother even though we hold no animosity whatsoever

I heard of Finns quietly hoping for a medal. With all due respect, this is not a medal team, it's barely a QF team. And it's not 1998 anymore as well. You can't bring 15 debutants (from SM), and hope to win a medal.

As ridiculous as it sounded to me a while ago, keeping Coolen as the head coach and Zirnis as the assistant might not be that bad of an idea after all.

They've effectively led the team since Nolan was signed by the Sabres.

And we're not looking half-bad without a bunch of key players.

It's basically an EHT team + Olli Jokinen. :(

This Wc doesn't really have any standout team. apart from Russia.. SO there is always the possibility.

That remains to be seen. Other countries haven't that special teams neither and Russia is always beatable, no matter what rosters there are in.

Hadn't heard of such a scenario. Doesn't sound that bad - certainly better than any of the coaches I mentioned taking over the team.
 
So there's a chance Štāls has a concussion, and he will be hospitalised. Yup, that's how clean hits are taken.
 
Marttinen has been horrible, as expected based on EHT. Worst pick to the team with Lajunen.
