love both guys but I gotta go with Vinny here even though I assume most are going with Iggy because of less linemate help (fair enough) or adjusted stats (ew lol) or whatever (I will note that Iginla racked up a bunch of goals down the stretch where Calgary literally had nothing to play for except maybe Iginla's personal stats as a counterpoint)

Lecavalier was a threat to score in so many ways it was insane and that's what you need shift by shift play by play... and then add to that so many goals were highlight reel worthy... Mario Lemieuxesque

As underwhelming as Lecavalier’s career was, I’ve gotta give him credit, when he was on his game, he was quite the specimen. I went with Iginla but Vinny had a great season as well

I think this gets overrated. Iginla had an even split of 26 goals in the first 41 and last 41 and while he finished the year strong with 8 in his last 8 and 20 goals in his last 27 games, he also started the year strong with 23 goals in his first 27 games. He was just a bit slower in the middle of the season. And while the Flames didn’t have much to play for down the stretch, he wasn’t exactly getting garbage goals. 12 of those 20 goals were in wins and a lot were important.

Game 56 he scores the 3-3 typing goal before they win 4-3

Game 57 he scores the 3-3 typing goal with 15 seconds left before they lose in OT

Game 58 he scores the opening goal in what would be a 3-2 loss

Game 61 he scores the game winner in a 5-2 game

Game 62 he scores the go ahead goal to make it 3-2, then scores the next 2 in a 5-3 win

Game 63 he scores the tying goal to make it 1-1 before a 3-2 loss

Game 65 he scores the tying goal to make it 2-2 before a 3-2 loss

Game 66 he scores the go ahead goal to make it 2-1 before a 3-3 tie

Game 75 he scores the 2nd goal and the insurance goal in a 5-3 win

Game 76 he scores the insurance goal in a 4-2 win

Game 77 he scores the tying goal to make it 2-2 in a 4-3 win

Game 78 he scores the tying goal to make it 1-1 before losing 3-1

Game 79 the team was down 3-0 early and he scores 2 goals to cut the lead to 3-2 while still early in the 2nd, but the team ends up losing 3-2

The only goals down the stretch that weren’t pretty important at the time they were scored was the 4th goal in a 6-1 blowout and a couple empty netters

Nice breakdown. I don’t know what people expected Iginla to do at the end of the season. Give up and stop trying to score goals?

Went with Iginla on this. Scoring goals at that point in the league was so hard. I am an extreme minority but I actually really liked the style of hockey that was played in that era of the NHL.
