Michkov has two(!) 5v5 points.

That really shouldn't be cutting it for Calder talk. A lot of that is bad luck and should improve, but still...calling him a PP/3v3 merchant is accurate right now.
Or, he’s already one of the best OT & PP weapons at 19 and once his ES on ice SH% normalizes, he will be a runaway winner.

The historical context will be easy to find for anybody that looks. There was a literal war in his home country that made teams worry they might not be able to get him over. Philly rolled the dice and it worked out for them. They were one looney Putin dictate away from being wrong.
It was more to do with his contract than the war. SKA St. Petersburg terminated his contract early.

It’s not really that hard to win a Calder a lot of years. Barrett Jackman won one. Stankoven will be a tough guy to beat for that but so what. Michkov is a dynamic 19 year old rookie on a bottom feeder with Torts as coach.

Some fans always have the most unrealistic expectations.

I mean yeah, like I said already, a large degree of that is bad luck and the ES scoring will improve. I literally already said that.

That he currently has only two 5v5 points is a fact of reality though.

Michkov is still the favourite in terms of betting odds (currently -125 on FanDuel vs. +180 for Stankoven). It'll be one of the two in all likelihood but I don't think that Stankoven is any more likely than Michkov right now.

Michkov is a rare talent and when I think that Anaheim, Colombus, San Jose, Habs and Arizona have left him for less talented players. Daniel Briere = Bravo.
15 pts in 16 games.
These teams didn't leave Briere any choice. I bet he would have drafted local boy Smith over Michkov if he had had an opportunity to do so. Who knows, maybe in the end he would have been right. It's a bit early to judge.

Correct. Point per game is awesome for him and Stankoven. Hutson has a good shot at it as well. It’s going to be a good race this year.

Yeah, Michkov vs Stankoven was the most popular take for Calder before the season started, and it looks like this time people were right. I don't think Hutson is going to be close to them. I think Wolf is the dark horse. If he gets close to 0.930 SV% he can win it, but it's a tough task to get SV% close to 0.930.

Won't happen but hypothetically If Wolf finished at .930 he'd probably be a Hart finalist. The Calder would be in the bag.
