Leaf fans who were doing the whole "who?" memes after Samuelsson shut down Matthews late last season are now doing it in the thread about his signing. We know who he is and what he can do. Some of them will even notice it again soon.

To be fair, they skipped the 'build a defense' part of the contender checklist, which is why they routinely have 100 point seasons only to bow out early.

Adams is starting to move from 'he made some great burn it down moves, but that's that easy part' to 'he's smartly setting up contracts to get out of the way before the prospect talent surge really hits'.

It's almost safe to believe in a GM here finally. I need to see more of the winning when it isn't feel-good though, and we're actually in the hunt.
 
With the cap % with projected increase using current cap value

2023-2024: 4.2M (83.5M)

2025-2026: 3.8M (92M)

2028-2029: 3.2M (110M)

If he stays the same as a top 4 d man it's good value. If he becomes elite defensively it's a massive steal.

To be fair to Leaf fans, they might not recognize even from watching how good Samuelsson is since it's been so long since they've had anyone that could be described as good at defense.
 
Anybody want to take a stab at these four players are? How about picking out which one Samuelsson is?

How does he not have a point this year? He's very involved in the offensive zone as well. Not complaining but it's weird how he doesn't even have a couple of secondaries.
 
6-1-0 with him in the lineup so far this year.
GF: 35
GA: 15
PK: 85% (4GA /27 times short)

Not precise since he was hurt in one of those games but a +20 goal differential in the games he has played and a massive difference in the PK (they gave up 14 goals on 39 times short in his absence).

The man is the lynchpin of their defense.
 
My goodness over 31 minutes in the Avs game...Sabres record with him is ridiculous....He seems to be a natural born leader...My vote for the next Captain is the Cobra.
