Thanks docThere was ZERO need for this injury to bleed into the season but a stupid decision to wait until the last minute to get the surgery now leaves the team weaker

No not at all my thought process hahaha He's been questionable for game 1 coming off a pretty serious surgery. Biggest mistake when it comes to sports injuries in my mind is guys coming back before they ideally should; it's an easy mistake when there's naturally pressure on the player to play, a lot of that from themselves. Don't think there's been any update of a sudden setback, just that he's not quite ready yet (always sounded like he'd be cutting it close); that's a hard call to make but likely the right one. Not sure the guy has even taken a one-timer yet in practice (he definitely hasn't ripped pucks like he's know for yet); coming back too soon could be a huge mistake if he reinjures it or causes the problem to linger on.
Leafs have 3 games in their first 3 days, 5 games in their first 10 days... that's a significant difference.
Certainly possible for a multi-goal first game to start the season. 4 goals would be something else, though he did it in the pastWatch him drop 4 goals against the SJS.
shit my bad haha 3 games in *4 days*It’s not allowed in the CBA to play 3 games in 3 days.
Actually closer to 12 millionYes.....$11M of dead cap until he returns
When it causes the franchise player to miss games he didn't need you should
Thanks doc
Even more reason to be ultra cautious. Surgery is never a slam dunk.....all carry varying degrees of risk. I know from my own surgeries.....
True. I don’t mind them holding him back at all, these are nothing games in the grand scheme. No not at all my thought process hahaha He's been questionable for game 1 coming off a pretty serious surgery. Don't need to be a doctor to know that the Toronto Maple Leafs could have gotten him the surgery sooner.
They are the Toronto Maple Leafs they can do that
Who cares? We could start 0-3 and we'll still make the playoffs. As long as he's 100% healthy when he's back, we're good. He'll still score at least 50 in 79 games.
Maybe, but no point dwelling on that. Fact is at the moment he's slated to play 79. But btw, he's only missed 4 games in the last 2 seasons.I wouldn’t count on him playing 79 games. Not gonna say it won’t happen but he hasn’t exactly been the most durable player so far in his career. He’s missed time for various injuries pretty much every season it seems so far except his rookie one.
Tf? Bud we could be missing Matthews and Tavares and we'll still look and be better than the Habs and Sens. We beat the Sens with our Marlies lineup just a week ago when they basically iced their opening night roster lol. The habs suck, don't let their run last spring fool you.Yup, this should have been expected when he decided to wait so long into the offseason to do this surgery. Did anyone actually think he would be ready opening night?
This team top to bottom is made up of a bunch of idiots.
Now what happens if Matthews misses any time during the season? This team does not look like a playoff team without him. They're very top heavy and cannot afford any injuries to those guys.

I'm not talking about the Sens and Habs - I'm talking about this team vs. the entire league. They are one injury away from potentially not making the playoffs. That's how they have been built.
Look at the lineup they will be icing on opening night. Does that look like a team that has any chance in the playoffs? Great teams can withstand injuries - this team can't.
I say the habs and sens because those are our 1st 3 opponents of the season, the games Matthews is expected to miss. So your thoughts on us not looking like a playoff team without him looking past those teams is irrelevant.I'm not talking about the Sens and Habs - I'm talking about this team vs. the entire league. We don't need him for first 3 games. We need him to be healthy. How could ppl be upset at this?
