As a side note, it’s been nice to not have to hear any “pace” related arguments as to why Matthews is the 2nd coming of Gretzky. With that being said, he can go on a heater at any point.

He's shooting at almost half his career average shooting percentage. This is a non issue.

He has a minuscule 2 EV goals in 18 games despite some of the highest ice time for forwards across the NHL. He might not even hit 35 goals this year overall.

This isn't nearly as bad or rare for even a player of his caliber, as you think. I just checked Ovechkin's latest 50 goal seasons and found multiple streaks where he had as many or less goals in the same # of contiguous games.
