Does it change anything that he also took the easy way out that he tragically has passed? Atleast Tkachuk wanted to go to a contender. I am sorry if anyone is offended by this but thats what happened. He felt it was the best fit for his family and thats ok too we are not in his shoes its his call. But what you are trying to do here seems like you are leveraging a terrible tragic and sad situation for your own personal benefit.
Tkachuk did the same thing as Johnny did. It was no different, that was my only point.

It's not that dressing room is an entitled prick zone or that the guys would be full of themselves. A power disparity in a group is a natural outcome even if you would behave normally.
It requires EXCEPTIONAL leadership skills from many guys in a team to deviate from these natural disparities. You need to actively act in a manner that tries to flatten the hierarchy. So in this case I suspect that McDrai haven't done anything wrong per se. They just haven't been exceptional with their leadership.
It is maurice that is the differnce maker imo.

TBH i think McDavid would love these comments from Tkachuk, puts tons of pressure on the Oilers brass - if the Oil had Holloway and Broberg they have exactly what they need which is more depth at key positions.

Yeah i agree with you and i think some players just dont like how certain players are treated and it affects their play. There is supposedly some rumors that Arvy asked for a trade . Im glad hes not on the Kings anymore . Great regular season player but too small for playoffs

I didnt get that vibe until I found out about the changes they made throughout the organization, to satisfy Connor. To me he never came across like that. Maybe somewhat entitled, and I think most would be if we had his talent. Draisaitl is a different story to me. If the team caters to them different, from the rest of the team, it could create a sort of friction favoritism in the locker room, where maybe some players would not appreciate.
I can definitely see that I remember seeing a video of Mcdavid asking some guy thats his dads age that he didnt like the fiji water and too get him aquafina or something but told him to hurry and run then apologized that it was mean . Seemed kinda douchey

I saw that too. I think it’s an inside joke they have with the staff, but some part did come off wrong, which he then apologized for.

Lets remember that guys like Tkachuk and Bennett did absolutely nothing on Calgary. They were dominated by the Oilers. They both had to jump to a stacked team to win. At the end of the day it's the best team that wins. Mcdavid and Draisaitl are unbelievable players but it doesn't matter because two players will never over come 4 great lines, great defence and goaltending. If Mcdavid takes a vet minimum contract and signs with the Panthers and wins the cup next year it doesn't all of a sudden make him a better player and a winner.
They didn't "jump" to a stacked team, they were traded and have been a part of forming the stack, if you will.

My observation had been that successful organizations always start at the top.

I can't recall a successful team who was known to have horrible ownership and/or lousy hoxkey operations people.

Could the Winnipeg Jets ever become good wirh John Ferguson or Mike Smith at the helm? Leafs wirh Ballard? Blackhawks with Bill Wirtz?

I have always been interested in successful organizations and what rhey tend to have in common and a common thread is a top down structure where everyone knows and is held accountable to do their job properly, focused on what needs to be done to he sucxessful rather than get bogged down with mistakes.

I would think Maurice is successful because Zito et al let him do his thing without interference or making him believe one mistake and he's done

A poorly constructed team that cut through the west like a hot knife through butter. Whats that say about that conference?

Broken? They are quite clearly the 2nd best team in the league. what on earth are you talking about. I am a sens fan before people start coming at me saying I am a homer.
It says that McDavid and Draisaitl are extremely good.

They definitely would have had better shot with Hyman

But, but, but all the intelligentsia kept saying the west was best.
And the defeat of the Knights and the Stars was proof that Oilville was top of the heap.
And Oil's forwards and defense was deeper than the ocean and their goaltending was the hottest and bestest and greatest of the playoffs.
And this time Oil has home ice.
And Oil is Canada and it's our game.
And #97 deserves it.
And bet your house on it.
And now listen to us about free agency signings.
And unfortunately, many will.

Good hockey player, but a lowlife type of person.

MAGA BS aside (this pains me greatly as a fan...), he is by all accounts an exemplary human being off the ice. makes a fuss over and takes care of everybody in his life, whether that's trainers, hotel staff, rink managers, janitors, etc. apparently learned that from walt. i don't know him or follow him around but this narrative is pervasive. i've heard from maurice among many others.

I reckon a glimpse into Panther's group dynamics would be fitting here:

"It can't be overstated, the character and ... I don't know if it's the right word, but the grace of each guy. If you came into the meal room, you wouldn't ... know ... who's ... who," Zito said, pounding his hands on the table for emphasis. "You didn't know who scored the winning goal. You didn't know who didn't play. I think that, as much as anything, is a testament to those guys and their character."

"That room that we have is so welcoming. Your personality fits almost no matter what it is. The more unusual your personality, the more you're going to fit in our room," Maurice said. "As long as you do those four or five things you need to do, everybody gets to be themselves."

What makes that chemistry work?

"That's all Barkov, truly," Maurice said.

"[Barkov] is like a magnet. You just find yourself gravitating towards him," Schmidt said. "You see what Cap does and it just kind of trickles its way all the way through the lineup. There's just no other way to do it. It's not like he's not a vocally imposing person. It's just, you need to do it because it feels like you have to do it for him."

Zito likened Barkov to a planet with "all the energy that comes from him" as a leader.

"It starts with Sasha," the GM said. "Paul's talked about this. I've talked about it. The players have talked about it. The only person who doesn't [get] talked about it is Sasha. How caring he is as a human and as a teammate. He makes you want to be a better person. So then it's easy to have the positive aspects of your personality come through. It's like he pulls it out of you."

Well Matthew is correct. Zitto knows how to build a championship winning team. Easily the best GM in the NHL right now.

Edmonton has tried to win a championship with two players over the last decade. It wasn't until they got Hyman where they reached another level. Hyman is easily the third most important player on the Oilers. Yes even more important than Bouchard.

Do people honestly believe falling on one side of the political spectrum or another is an indication of the person's moral character/personality?

You mention the things he does as if that must be some kind of rare exception.
