Makes sense to me, I figured the ask for a two-way risk deal would be a bit more than the mid way point between downside and upside, which I pegged at 4.5M to 9.5M.

Given we are salvaging a mess job with this era, it might make sense to bridge Knies through the Matty contract and leverage the near term. Something like 4 years at 5M sans NMC.

3 years - 12 million is good for both sides. Maybe Knies doesnt want to play here , the culture is toxic around this club, all they do is underachieve and make excuses.

Love this kids compete and physicality. Really hope playing with Matthews and Marner doesn’t rub off on him and he tries to be more flashy than a true powerforward.

This and it’s still a gamble for the player. If I were Knies I would have negotiated before the season. If he fails to pot 20 or gets hurt he’ll be worth a little less than what he was in September.

Now the focus has to be an 8 year deal for Knies. None of this 4 or 6 year stuff.
Don’t forget the NMC

He doesn’t have the hands to be flashy.

Kids a beast been the best player on his line most nights I don’t think he’s being maximized on that line I know he can drive the third line himself and he could definitely sure up the second line if it falters

No, he hasn't... he's been good but is clearly third wheel.

Seems reasonable for someone who is shooting double his career shooting % and has a career average 37 points per 82 games.

Robertson is at 30 per 82 for reference and has played garbage minutes.

I like Knies a lot, but there is still time to see what they have instead of committing long-term while he is producing at an unsustainable rate.

he has a higher hockey IQ I think than a lot of folks realize. He doesn't quite have the hands of say Nylander or Marner but he's able to read the ice really well and put himself in the right spot. Saw that all the time during his last college year

He's sniped some goals this year that show an improvement in his shot.

Must have worked on it over the summer.

That line wouldn’t look nearly as good without him he’s the motor on that line

I think he and marner are the motor, but Knies is AWD, and isn't intimidated.

Understandable, one is 227 lbs. the other 180 lbs. with a roll of quarters in his pocket.
Marner usually has the puc but very few have the motor Knies has honestly and as you mentioned has the size to go with it

If it took the Slavkovsky contract I would go there with this kid.
Knies isn’t close to that level right now.

Also if he wants over 5 m he needs to produce without Matthews and Marner imo

Not against putting him on the 3rd line to see if he can run his own line.

How is he not on that level strongly disagree and if he isn’t on the top line that line looks even worst I promise you
