Speculation: Matthew Knies next contract

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

If he can get 12 points in the playoff this year he will already be better than Matthews and Nylander. Still not as good as Marner though. Pay him!
Knies will almost certainly be their most impactful player in the competitive environment of the NHL playoffs, but he just doesn’t have the a long enough resume to command the type of money mentioned in the OP. He’d be smart to go for a 3 year bridge.

Jake Neighbours coming off a 27G, 38P season got 3.75x2

Knies should get 4Mx2 or 5Mx3 imo.

No reason to sign him 8 years. Leafs window is the next 3-4 years, cap hit won't matter much after that point.

6yrs/8M+ AAV. Will all depend on what they do with Pajamas/Marner, obviously, because they won't have a lot of wiggle room if they sign both to what people expect them to. Pajamas has been speculated to be 3yr/7MAAV and if Marner comes in at 14+, that leaves only 3M-ish for Knies and everyone else.

Kid is going to get a huge raise assuming it’s a long term deal, especially with the cap going up

3 players this season have 25 goals and 150 hits.

Brady Tkachuk, Tom Wilson, and… Matthew Knies.

He’s only in his second full season. Has shown the ability to play on a top line. He’s an absolute load for opposing teams to handle.

If the Leafs want term, this is going to cost a lot of money.

Toronto fans & media: our players are the greatest

Also Toronto fans & media: why does everyone suggest our players get such high dollar contracts
there is a difference between calling a player good and calling him 9 million/season good

Wilson's first big extension was after his age 23 season was $5.16Mx6. Factor in cap going up and Knies being a year younger and you're looking at probably $6Mx6 if I had to guess
