This is Toronto were talking about.
When haven't they wanted to give there guys very generous deals, I doubt they cheap out now

I'd also like to point out once we get guys here we have an absolute ***** of a time getting guys to leave, they all sign NTC and the buggers don't seem to want to waive

Toronto is a pretty attractive destination, even for Americans

If Marner signs then Knies is getting if sheets. If Knies signs then Marner is gone as a UFA. Leafs just can’t lose both.
I think the choice for the leafs should be simple. You keep the superstar before you pay the distant clear 3rd best guy on the line.

No ones interested in offer sheets on May 1st. Every RFA is on July 1st

He most likely gets signed without issues though.
Do leafs have cap space?? If am Knies, I would wait for the best offer instead of signing right away

He likes it here, the team is contending, he is having success, and the Leafs can give him a competitive offer even if it is not the top offer. That is good for most players.

do leafs have 9 million in cap space? Because if leafa are offering 5 or 6 million, that would be a lowball offer

This thread is fueled by the hatred for the Leafs.
Knies isn't going anywhere.
We shall see bro, Canucks are hungry for some scoring and have cap space to burn with Boeser gone and possible Pettersson trade. Some teams just are desperate to get a scorimg forward while Leafs have a lot of them with little cap space. It only makes sense

Leafs have loads of cap space. 25+ million with Marner and Tavares expiring

Teams are dying for a player with his profile. Even though it’s only been a season, that’ll be enough for some orgs. Tanner Jeannot got traded for basically a whole draft so I think the compensation won’t be too high a bar. With the cap going up by such a large amount not just this year but next as well, I could very easily see a team justifying a big overpay. Knies will get offered between 9-11.5 or whatever that tier is IMO.

Yea, but why would he sign there?
Yeah with ice time and money offered why not? You are making it sound like its McDavid signing with a KHL team. Canucks is still an NHL team offering 9 million USD per year. Most players will take the money.

I would imagine he’d want to go somewhere with a 1C and a chance of making the playoffs, so Canucks are out of the running.

those teams usually dont have the money or picks to do a 9 million dollar offersheet. Am sure he would love to play in FLA on their top line but that isnt happening when they dont have cap space or the picks. Canucks still have their 1C in pettersson

….why would he leave Toronto?

More ice time?

Canucks aren’t a playoff team or threat to be a cup contender.

He’d make more money in Toronto with endorsements while staying on a much better team.

Will Toronto have cap space to offer 9 million per year? How about Marner?? Also am talking about guaranteed money aside from endorsements.
