Pretty sure the job cuts were announced a while ago. The last I heard they were originally going to cut production in Smyrna but after the tariffs had reversed course and were going to move more production there.
A Buc-ee's will open in Oak Creek, WI in the next few months. That is south of Milwaukee and just off of I-94 to the west. The closest one that I know of is south of Indianapolis.
Indy has a Waffle House and a Zaxby's, so the South is invading Yankeeland!
My wife and I stopped at a Buc-ee's in Georgia when we drove to Florida 3 years ago. It was large and my wife said it had the cleanest restroom that she ever saw. I saw that a 12-pack of Yuengling was $2 cheaper than at a grocery store in Deerfield Beach, FL. Maybe they get a better price for buying in bulk quantities?

One of Bucc-ees "claims to fame" is their very clean bathrooms. And they dont allow semis.

That's awful. It seems to be a thing for the moment. My dad called me last week to let me know the preacher at his church had died suddenly, he wasn't that old either.
I saw that about Joy and Fred's son, just unimaginable.
As for the southern influx into the northern tier, we have a Tim Horton's being built in Donelson and there is one already open in Mt Juliet. I've never been to a Buc-ee's. I think a WaWa and an In and Out are moving into the area. Maybe I'll go. Probably won't, ha!

I got gas at $2.54 on Monday -- was noticing the trend down the road between the two burbs I frequent and got in before it rose to $2.79 (yay! I win the jackpot of $3 ish--25 cents/gallon is nothing to sneeze at!)
Yesterday same station was, indeed, at $2.79 along with every other station in the area (or close, we won't quibble over a penny). Today Thorntons and the station across the street were back at $2.54 but all the other ones down the pike were still at $2.79.

Where I grew up in Philly, my Wawa was Wawa #1... While living in Florida I was so happy that Wawa was there. Everyone should go at least once, just to get Philly style pretzels. If you think "i've had plenty of pretzels in my life, they're all the same" you've never had a Philly pretzel, they're absolutely the best thing on earth. But go in the morning, they'll be stale in the afternoon. Wawa also always has free air!
And if you ever visit Philly for a football/baseball game, look for a guy pushing a shopping cart full of pretzels and don't be afraid to buy one, that's the best place to get them (used to be all over town, now just at the stadium). In fact, once a week in elementary school, the janitor would push a cart full of pretzels around the school and sell them for a quarter each.
Everyone knows the cheesesteak, but the philly pretzel is just as important to the people there, we also invented the hoagie (sub) but everyone has those now.
Let's put it this way, I wouldn't go out of my way to go to a convenience store. IF it was near my house, sure. But to go to Buc-ee's means that even if I was to go to the family homeplace in Athens AL, where there is one, it isn't on my route. THAT SAID, I never believed it about how NYC bodegas have excellent pizza and it was the best I've ever tasted, bar none. Same for New England chowder--little hole in the wall restaurant and the chowder was just amazing. Yeah the Buc-ee's BBQ ain't bad, especially considering it's a freaking gas station. I'd go for the sliced brisket sandwhich over the chopped as we found the chopped to be a bit inconsistent. Her chopped one was great, mine was more like leftover shreds of meh.
The baked goods there aren't bad either but my wife said the chicken sandwhich wasn't worth grabbing.

I wouldn't say smoked. As good as last night's game was there's been as many or more blowouts than nail biters
The covid playoffs were great, probably not a huge gap over the NHL that season though.
