Player Discussion Matthew Knies | Built for the Playoffs

Future captain and there’s no doubt in my mind. He’s the anti-Marner/Matthews.
Imagine Knies next to a Bennett and a power forward RW.

It’s pretty funny the panthers men just standing by leaving him untouched. They probably wanted no part of Knies. After Avery did that, I believe the nhl instituted a rule you couldn’t face the goalie while doing that obstruction thing. So pretty sure what Knies did in that clip is ok. Just surprising that the dmen let it go on
So he can do that, Ok that's interesting. I've never seen anyone do that, at least I don't remember noticing it. Surprising it's not done more as it seems quite effective!

Well you would know but isn’t it the dmans job to clear him away from the net. I’d think not many dmen would just ignore him doing that. However if you have a truly intimidating forward, maybe they would. Lol

No thanks to Bennett. As a Leaf he'll live in the penalty box.

Bennett would get suspended the first "sneaky" elbow he throws. Heavy emphasis on the quotations, his elbows aren't sneaky but the league has chosen to ignore his transgressions so it doesn't matter. If and once he puts on the Blue and White it's over for him.

Leafs will overpay Bennett and it won't hit the same. The good teams trade for them when it makes sense, the bad teams (Leafs) chase them when they cost too much and usually too old.
This right here has been the Leafs for the last decade with the UFA signings with this core. And even before that but that's a different story

Sam Bennett would probably turn into David Clarkson here in Toronto with his mid level regular season production and living under the microscope.

You want the next baby psycho, not the one looking for an overpay.

My advice to Knies:

It may be tempting to sign an offer sheet just to get as far away from this mess as possible, but if it's for a full 7-year term the Leafs will match and you're stuck here until it expires.

So either just refuse to sign any deal the Leafs offer and force a trade or just agree to an extension with the Leafs at the minimum term to get you to free agency, then get out of town.

Knies wants to be in Toronto and right now he is a fan favourite, the next captain most likely.

He is competitive which ensures he will always play with pride. There will be changes this offseason if the Leafs can't get it done yet again and more Gamers like him will be brought in. He will thrive.

It may be worth the overpay to have a line with his presence.

Domi Matthews Nylander
Crouse Bennett Knies
Pacioretty Tavares Ehlers
Lorentz Laughton Cowan

This team doesn't get away with anything. The only reason FLA doesn't get called is because it's a critical growth market for the league. Bennet will be the next Clarkson here

They need cups in FLA to establish a base

Florida bottom line does not support an NHL team in regular season .. but in playoffs we had well over 5,000 Leaf jerseys in crowd .. my buddy went to game .. he picked up 2 seats row 15 on blue line for total cost $550 US cash right before game .. there is no way you get those 2 seats for under $2,000 at Scotia (face value) .. bottom line our fans get great deals as their fans don't want to pay to watch .. pretty simple math

Such a great future. Outside shot at the US Olympic team next year if he has a good season going. They really have nobody else with his combination of attributes.

Think he injured himself trying to check Mikkola (?) just inside the Panthers' blueline near the end of the 1st.
