Love this deal. Smith Pelly is an actual NHL player. So happy I don't have to root for Mattaeu anymore. He's been brutal for too long. Don't see any potential there.

DSP on the other hand immediately upgrades our bottom six, and adds a physical presence that's taller than 5'5" and not named Kalinin.

Stef has had too many red flags since juniors.

I was rooting for him but it just didn't work out.

I think conditioning was an issue.

Yes and Pierre "Caillou" McGuire agrees with you.

Good chance Matteau did not impress the staff this past summer into training camp. And, also a chance Stef just hasn't done enough in practice or off the ice to earn more playing time.

I'd like to see how he plays with Kalinin if they get them on the same line.

At a glance, DSP has higher creativity than Kalinin at least, but if both work out a tough posession game down low, maybe DSP has a better chance at making use of the space they create to actually produce some points. At least better at the rate that was going on with the other 3rd line mates.

Just what we need, more bottom 6ers! Lol, I don't see any upgrade over Matteau, but whatever. Lateral move.

Matteau wasn't going to return more than a bottom six player or a late round pick. He hasn't proven anything in the NHL to be worth more than someone like DSP. Probably just a case where the organization and coaching staff prefer DSP to Matteau. Couldn't expect more than this in exchange for Matteau.

Devante Smith-Pelly will wear No. 25; David Warsofsky will wear No. 47.

Agreed, but I'm not a fan of trades done for the sake of trading. Why not just keep your player? Again, though, it's a lateral move so I really don't care.

Smith-Pelly isn't your heavy hitter, if you expect him to hit to hurt, you'll be disappointed. But he's hard to move out of the crease and got decent hands. He did score 5 goals in the playoffs with the Ducks 2 years ago. He wasn't as bad as some of the Habs fans said.

We'll see what Hynes can get out of DSP.

I doubt it will be much, but you never know.

I defended Matteau more than most on here, but it seemed that the coaching staff didn't like him and/or his game. I don't think he was going to get the ice time he would need to develop here, whereas Hynes and Shero might like DSP's game more and be willing to give him ice time in the bottom six. If DSP plays consistently in the bottom six, the deal makes sense, since it didn't seem like Hynes wanted to play Matteau regularly in the bottom six. It might be a lateral move, but I think for whatever reason Shero and Hynes see DSP as a better fit for the team than Matteau.

25 = perfect
47 = eew. Training camp number.

I hope Blandisi ditches the 64 next year. I could see him in 9 or 10.

Devils fans are gonna have to get out of this line of thinking, when left to their own devices, lots of players choose numbers like this.

almost all of the dominos have fallen (social media, numbers, beards, trade leaks/rumours….do assistant coaches talk to the media now?)

…the only one remaining is trading with the rags …dont do it ray….some things should not be touched
