He should've started at the top. He's been the king of the AHL for years already and there's better fighters down there who can't actually play hockey.

Seems like Rempe was ducking him for a reason.
He's fought him twice, went with Reaves, MacDermid, Deslauriers...kid isn't ducking anybody.

Not much of a fight, McIlrath is one of the top fighters in pro hockey anyway so there's no shame in losing that one.

Wasn't McIlrath mostly drafted as high as he was (10th OA) because of his junior fighting prowess? Reputation as toughest guy in the CHL in his draft year? Looking at that draft, there wasn't much toughness selected - I do believe he had a fight with Alex Petrovic at the CHL prospects game here in Windsor that year.

If you look at almost all of the top "heavyweights" now, it took them YEARS at the pro level to hang with the big boys at the top of the heap. Someone like Xhekaj is a pretty rare exception. Rempe is 22 and hasn't even grown into his body yet, pretty crazy to see the criticism when he's taking on these killers.

This is just a case of an experienced fighter going up against a guy who is just big and brave. McIlrath knew he could just feed him those left jabs without losing hold of him.

Yeah anyone who can hold their own against Deslauriers isn't a bad fighter. People should go back and watch some of John Scott's early fights. Rempe will never be as good at fighting as Scott became but he'll get better.

I don't agree about Xhekaj though, he hasn't fought many top heavyweights and has struggled with the ones he did.

I think he can hang with most of them already, but wouldn't shock me if he gets exposed too. I guess he didn't look so great against Johnston or Deslauriers now that I watch it again.

Rempe once again gets a bad grab right at the middle of McIlrath's collar. If he's going to be more cautious and technical, then he needs to grab around the far side shoulder area, where he can get a better restraint of that throwing arm.

I'm sure you'd lay a beating on him .

If I were a goon paid millions of dollars to throw punches and played in the NHL, most likely.

Dude is batting about .200 right now.

It's not like the 6'7 guy blocking jabs with his face is killing it with technique in there, this guy would be on life support by now if he were fighting the enforcers of 20 years ago with his inability to utilize range or simply showcase any kind of even below average defense.

.200 fighting the top guys in the league and he's held his own against most of them. Obviously, he could improve but he's not a bad fighter. It's ridiculous how much people shit on him. And every single player in this league would be on life support if they fought enforcers from 20 years ago.

Not too sure why Rempe is in the league. Hes not a tough guy. And he’s not a useful bottom line forward. The league has expanded too much.

The issue is he's eating a ton of damage, the kid may be 22 but his brain is going to be 60 by the time he's 25 if he doesn't learn how to utilize his reach and avoid taking damage.
