Thanks. I feel I have seen even worse than that. Ive seen guys crosschecked to the face only get 5-15 games. I would appeal but no sense getting too upset with it. Trouba got away with some as well.
Did Buch get anything for crosschecking Mantha across the face in the Tom Wilson payback game?

NHLPA will always appeal long suspensions, the money the player is forfeiting being the main reason.
The length is from being a repeat offender and an unnaturally frequent offender at that. I doubt the players association has any legal ground to stand on this time.

The hit was an easy call, and the suspension is warranted. That being said, I was very happy to see him play an effective game prior to the Heiskanen hit. That’s his path to being a regular NHLer, and even if he isn’t scoring, that’s an effective 4th liner.

He still needs a lot of work, so let him get more time in HFD to build up his stamina and help him learn how to play a consistent game where he’s continuously skating. He should look at how Jordan Martinook plays. That’s a good template for him.

I'm not saying they have a case for making the suspension shorter. I'm just saying that the monetary cost for Rempe is so severe, that the NHLPA will appeal even if it's in vain. That's what unions are for.

Idk how this union stuff works since it also represents Heiskanen

How long the opposing player is out or not shouldn't matter. The other player could be lucky and not be badly injured. It doesn't mitigate the fact that what Rempe did is a bad reckless hit, and he should know better.

It's just a bad argument all around to determine suspension length on how much time the other player misses. Especially since we know teams are bad with injuries and keeping players in when they should realistically be taken out for some time.

Unions have something called duty of fair representation which means they have to treat their members fairly and in good faith. If there is an appeals, grievance, or arbitration process for discipline, they basically have to help the player. Being part of a union is akin to having an attorney on retainer (of varying quality depending on your union, LOL). That Heiskanen is also a member of the NHLPA doesn't affect anything, even though it can create awkward scenarios in the union hall. I'm sure there are several members of the NHLPA executive board who would rather not help Rempe (or other guys with bad reputations) but they have little choice.

I remember during the playoffs Lomberg elbowed Vesey. He was injured and missed the rest of the playoffs. Vesey didnt even have the puck and Lomberg skates over and injures him blatantly. Refs didnt even call a penalty. So Rempe does this hit, admittedly a little dirty but the other guy isnt even injured. 8 f***in games plus a 5 minute penalty. Theres no fairness this is a load of horse shit.

I just wish the league was consistent. If Wilson and Bennett were getting 8 games too, then ok. For Rempe to get 8 when those guys don't get suspended at all feels like the league is picking favorites.
Unfortunately there's always inconsistencies with stuff like this, and I completely agree that there's some other guys out there who seem to get way with plays that merit more scrutiny But again, we talking here about another suspendable play 12 games after the last one. There's a target on his back for sure, but he's put it there and he's simply not going to get the benefit of the doubt.

There is a reason this website was resurrected as a joke: NHL Wheel of Justice

(originally existed during the Campbell days, but then died out but got revived recently)

The 1 consistent thing about the Player Safety Department is it's inconsistency.Thats never going to change. That being said,Rempe deserved this.He has to smarten up when guys are facing the boards-you can't hit them square in the numbers with your elbows up high...it's going to be called every single time
