Or your air headed GM who thought it was a smart idea to mismatch the cap for a good 2-3 weeks and play shorthanded regularly for Patrick Kane. And sure, but again, how is that on Gallant? I agree that he sucked as a coach but if he doesn't have the players in the bottom 6, there's nothing he could do. The only thing he should be blamed for is how he treated the kids, not having grit is not an excuse for Gallant considering what he did with Vegas. And I disagree, you need guys to legitimately play hockey, you can't just have guys running around like complete imbeciles. I mentioned Edstrom being a good player in that depth role but if you mention Rempe then you just have a hard on for 90's hockey or seeing these guys fling their bodies like meat missiles at each other.
It's tough to blame Drury when you have a coked out Dolan texting you every 30 minutes to get the ghost of Patrick Kane. He was right in trading what he did for Tarasenko in that package, but that should've been the end of it. There is a clear stark difference between what the Rangers did at the deadline in 2022 and what they did in 2023 and it's so stark a difference you'd think it was an entirely different GM. Things this year are back on track for now, the guys that Drury drafted and the guys that have been within the depths of the organization since COVID are now ready to get more looks. If you hate guys like Rempe then Berard, Sykora, Othmann are all going to be just as much of a threat.

The Rangers put stock in old-school grit and it's starting to pay off, did the Devils?

Comparing those guys to Rempe means you need your eyes examined or you're just trolling at this point. Those guys are legitimately have a chance to be regulars while playing a hard nosed game, Rempe at his best would be Cam Janssen if THAT.I have no problem with that as a Devils fan if those guys legit became good players for NYR and became a thorn in our side because it means the Devils would have to respond back in some sort of fashion with similar players. And you can keep saying that, but at the end of the day, every Rangers fan knows the Devils are a horrid matchup come playoffs for NYR. All this grit talk doesn't mean shit when you're actually getting scored on for the dumb penalties you take from said "grit" If the Devils took advantage and scored 3-4 goals on that powerplay last night, Rempe is never seeing NHL ice ever again.

Devils are getting the Leafs treatment here unfortunately, clear hit to the head. NHL DOP is a joke.

It was over for the league's DPOS after this, Moore had to spend a night in the hospital + miss 15 games+ diagnosed with a concussion all while Tom Wilson get 0 games and just a 5K fine. Once you don't suspend that then everything is fair game from the leagues players.

I understood we were told that hits to the head, particularly as the primary point of contact, were unacceptable. Whether his arm was tucked, or he glided in or didn't jump isn't relevant to the first statement. Otherwise, targeting a players head is just fine as long as you use your shoulder.

Absolute worst non call in NHL history.

Artemi Panarin f***s around with Tom Wilson and finds out: "WOW, WTF, ASSAULT ON THE ICE"

Trouba or some other Rag headshots a guy: "lol tuffen up, princess."

Nah, not even the funniest part. They used Bastian coming back and no injury for the reason why this bum shouldn't be suspended as if Trouba hasn't taken out Crosby/Jarvis and other guys via injury and avoided suspension.

Well I have seen him play a number of games in Hartford when they play LV and I have seen nothing . He is younger yes but there is 0 reason he should have been called up .

First game early drops the gloves and ends up playing 4:28 mins that game , 2nd game gets 5 min major tossed . Yup there is a reason they called him up but hockey skill sure the heck ain't the reason .

Sorry , skill wise he is a lower level ECHL player and the only reason he got an ELC is his size , period
As I said, I haven't been much of a Rempe fan, so defending his skill isn't something high on my list of priorities.

While I'm sure you paid him a ton of attention in those handful of games you watched where he played and know a lot more about him than someone like me who watched him for probably 80+ games between junior and the AHL...I'll just say that I disagree that he's a "lower level ECHL player." That's what I thought he'd be, but he's not. He can definitely play at the AHL level.

We get it, you've sufficiently waved your "I hate the Rangers" Devils-fan giveaway card in here. Bastion was bent in half trying to play a puck that is within an inch of his stick blade when he got run over, the major was suspect, the match was overkill, and any suspension crying at this point makes you look as ridiculous as Dolan's embarrassing ass letter after the Wilson stuff.

The league needs more rempes and less euro figure skaters in the bottom 6. The sports about enterainment, youre still worked up about a game 24 years ago because of matt rempe. Hes taking mindshare from fans around north america. He was discussed on 32 thoughts, marek show, tv, radio. Great for the game

I thought it was a shit hit. Prob shoulda gotten some games. I honestly don't care about either team. But now I'm looking forward to the next game they play against each other.
Wait til tomorrow. Rangers flyers will remind us of what made hockey great

Well we know the NHL won't have to issue a warning here since there is nothing to see here....right?

We ask again. And btw no one has answered yet. What did you want rempe to do? Slide and steal second and take out bastians legs? Turn and his bastians head with his back rather than bicep? This is hockey btw

clean is clean. Whether it results in an injury or not really shouldnt matter. If bastian was unconscious and eating through a feeding tube, it shouldnt matter. It is clean. Wasnt even minor worthy

You are the one who type casted him as a goon. Not even knowing that Martin was the one who asked for the fight and then said nothing about what Bastan did after a clean hit. We should also be mindful of the players who continually put themselves in positions like that. I was talking with my wife about when my oldest who is 26 now was 9 years old he started doing Jeff Serowik's Pro Ambitions Battle Camp. Jeff taught the young skaters how to go back, retrieve a puck and not put yourself in a dangerous position. He used to call it the pension position. Every summer my son and a few friends would attend Jeff's camp and I never saw them receive a hit like that or from behind because they learned not to put themselves in that position. All of them played youth through various different levels of college hockey. A couple are in the AHL and knocking on the door for the NHL. Today I routinely watch NHL players put themselves in that position time and time again now a days hoping to draw a penalty if they are hit. The player who is hit when putting himself in a very exposed position needs to accept the responsibility as well. If you watch the hit from Rempe it was text book= the problem was he is 6'8 and Bastan was bent over and not expecting to be hit. Why wasn't he expecting to be hit, he was playing the puck? No one wants to see anyone get injured and possibly end their career. Hits like this are going to happen more and more as the players get bigger & faster and the puck carriers dont accept responsibility for their actions. The Rangers have Ryan Lindgren who does the same stuff, game after game puts himself in positions like this and gets hit and injured. It is amazing that at the NHL there are players that don't know how to hit properly or put yourself in a position to accept a hit properly!
This is an interesting post. A lot of people will dismiss it as "victim blaming" but that's really not what it is. When you play a game as fast and physical as hockey you have to learn to protect yourself. It's like defensive driving.

The Lindgren part is spot-on. Larry Brooks wrote an article earlier this year about Lindgren and "spatial awareness." The article was ridiculed because of the headline, although people are stupid and don't understand Brooks doesn't write the headlines for his columns. Anyway, his point was valid, which was that if Ryan Lindgren wants to continue to have a career, he needs to stop putting himself in such dangerous positions on the ice. The guy gets absolutely killed out there every night. There are other guys like that. You have to protect yourself. When guys commit truly dirty hits, they need to be held accountable. When you get your skull caved in by a clean hit because you were staring at your feet or admiring a pass, you need to take some ownership of thay as well.

Right, I made that point. It shouldn't matter if Bastian came back in regards to a suspension which your own fanbase said is all.

Then don't come on the main board to read the thread or ignore me, you bitching about me being posting on the main board on a thread that's open for anyone to respond is even more comical. Loser ass HF

I can come into wherever on this board I please, especially the main board, to reply to a thread full of whining, wailing, false comparisons, hyperbole, and massive hypocrisy with ny thoughts, same as you.

By the way, I didn't "bitch about you." You reading into it because of a reply is on you. Maybe read what I said again.

Enjoy your day. Or not. I don't really care either way.

the Rangers in 2021 are miles different than the Rangers this year in 2024. After that Wilson "incident" the Rangers completely shifted their focus to not get thrown around. It ended up being a blessing in disguise, I predict this is in the same tier for the Devils. They'll learn from it and bolster the roster the same way the Rangers managed, but it might take some sacrifices via trades. Mercer, Holtz, etc.

I mean Devils fans have said this about Nico/Jack as well but if you're advocating for guys to get ran through when they're vulnerable then it's all or nothing thing. You can't cry when it happens to your players as a league and then ignore when your players do it. The NHL has clearly f***ed up by drawing a line so this is why we stand in a weird gray zone whenever a hit like this happens.

Yeah, trade two good top 6 wingers possibly for grit is definitely the strategy to do. Not a goalie but grit. Might as well get Ryan Reaves in like you guys did and run 11 forwards a game nightly too.

Agree that you need to be consistent. The shit that Lindgren deals with, it's pretty much all on him and I have no problem with it. The Rangers used to have a guy, Petr Prucha, who was the same way. He wasn't built like Lindgren (who is a mutant or something) and he ended up out of the league as a result.

I would say in general I'm a defender of a lot of the "bad" hits. When I say that I mean hits like this where a lot of people are up in arms, but to me they seem relatively clean. Of course a lot of stuff is beyond the pale and deserves to be severely punished.

The Rangers fortunately haven't been on the receiving end of a lot of devastating hits in the recent past, so I can't point to a lot of times where I was on the side of a guy who clobbered a Ranger. I like to think though that I call balls and strikes pretty fairly in general. Hopefully it doesn't come up any time soon.

it doesn't look good on paper but you can't say it hasn't worked for the Rangers. They play mean, they play nasty, they play exactly the Drury way you'd expect and they can score when the chips are down. Rangers been getting knocked on for their rebuild for the past few years and yet from what I've witnessed, it's taking shape.
Devils are behind the curve right now, will take another 2-3 years to form up something akin to what the Rangers have cooking right now. Othmann was taken with a lottery pick lest we forget, Devils are a couple smart #15 or #16 picks away from having contender tier depth.

I mean this hit is exactly when Phaneuf ended Sauer's career and I'm sure a ton of Rangers fans were pissed when that hit happened. I personally don't care if hits are in the league or not, the allure to me isn't guys getting caved in or whatever. The hit by Trouba last night on Bastian was beautiful and I can admire it but I don't go to hockey games or watch for guys getting laid out left right and center.

Nah, its what the nhl takes into consideration which ive always thought is dumb

Well at least he said it. This guy would be okay if hitting was out of the league haha. This sport is already teetering towards pure boredom of figure skating little fairies. Luckily theres still guys like rempe, hathaway, seeler, perry, trouba etc that keep the games entertaining

For the sake of this bullshit Devils/Rangers argument continuing instead of the main point of this thread, I'll make this my last post in that regard, the Devils are fine are long term. A ton of shit has happened to them this year that you couldn't have expected coming into the year. A lot of it is fixable but we'll see what they do. I don't buy them physically weak, it just looks like that because of the final score of the game last night. If they had a powerplay worth anything, the Devils probably win that game.

Who is crying about it happening to Rangers? I don't see any of that here or elsewhere. What I see is many Devils fans and known Ranger-haters doing exactly what you are ascribing to Rangers fans. And I guess the random Toronto trolls trying to equate this to Rielly's non-hockey assault to claim some perceived victim status.

I, and many others, don't view this as the NHL "f'ing up," as much as maintaining as much of the speed, intensity, and physicality the sport is known for in the context of "No more blatant headhunting." Which, again, this was not.

The NHL has made it beyond clear that given the speed of the game and the inherent physical play ingrained as a feature of the sport, that sometimes hits like this will happen and aren't to be punished for the result. And they've reinforced that stance once again with their ruling that there is no review for potential supplemental discipline.
