Heard at french radio 91.9 that MTL wants Crawford back in Montreal, but he still wants to be a #1 and won't accept a job behind price.

Put some retention and MTL could help out Chicago if they want Murray

The link (and the link in the link) reads as speculation by the Pens beat writer to be honest. He even lists other teams as possible destinations for Murray...

“In terms of where he could go, a lot of teams could use a goalie. Chicago, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary were all playoff teams that could shore up their goaltending situations. San Jose, Ottawa and Detroit are three that missed the 24-team tournament. If they believe in Murray, they could rebuild around him.”

I'd happily swap Murray for Strome. We've been lacking that third line C presence since we jettisoned Bonino. Strome could be a nice Jordan Staal replacement there too.

I don’t hate the player but Strome isn’t really what the Pens want in a 3C. Could help the PP though. Regardless, don’t see how Chicago affords Murray either way.

As a heads up, Pens beat writers that don’t work for the Athletic generally have no idea what’s going on. Yohe is used as a way to get team info and maybe how they view certain players out to the public and Rossi is in with some of the players themselves. Even then McKenzie and other national writers break a lot of transactions and rumors with the team.

Even "speculation" is pushing it. A reader simply asked the reporter about where he thought Murray could be dealt.

Rossi brings insight, even if he approaches stories from a certain angle.

That’s because he’s really not a 3C. He doesn’t play that kind of game. (Which is why he’s not a fit for the hawks anymore)

With Malkin and Sid, I don’t really see how he’d fit in Pittsburgh either.

He’s a good player though.

Did he really list Vancouver as a team that needs to shore up its goaltending?

Murray's probably going to someone for a bottom pair puck moving RD or defensive 3C. I think Ottawa makes a lot of sense with a Tierney for Murray swap.

What about Murray for Adam Larsson? With Letang and Marino on RD wouldn’t a stay at home type fit as both Letang and Marino have offensive skill

I threw out Puljujarvi and Larsson for Murray (and maybe a small plus from the Penguins) on the Penguins board, but my concern is that Larsson really isn't the type of RD that the Penguins seem to want to play with Johnson. Larsson is a good fit with POJ, who's going to replace Johnson if they move Johnson, but I am skeptical that they're actually going to move Johnson.

As an Ottawa fan, I’d make that deal and hope Murray can rebound. Ottawa would need to deal either Nilsson or Hogberg though. Preferably Nilsson.

If they did want a Larsson and Puljujarvi package I’d add something and ask for Murray and McCann who I’ve seen mentioned as a trade target on here.

Would fill 2 holes for us as we need a 3C and a Smith replacement. Bouchard should be ready so we could potentially move Larsson

I love how everybody on HFboards thinks Murray is a worthless POS now. Thank god you guys don't actually make moves

I just think it's a goalie heavy market, and he's one of the more expensive options.

Goaltenders that are paid that much and aren't elite don't have value.

Andersen was traded for a 1st and 2nd in 2016 right after signing to a 5 year, $25 million deal. That seems like it's both "paid a lot" and "not elite".

For reference, the equivalent contract to Andersen's contract in 2016 today is 5 years at $5.7 million AAV. If Murray wants 5 years at $6 million, he's really not far off from Andersen in 2016.
