Unfortunately a lot of reports make it seem like we will be unable to LTIR him.

Do we have to give up the 1st for him if so?

Id almost rather just send him to the Marlies until he gets hurt in 10 games and eat the 3 whatever million that isn't buried from the transaction

I would give up a 3rd and retain a million or so of the contract. Wouldn't want to0 give up more than a 3rd since that is what received to take him on last offseason with 2 years left on his contract.
If that doesn't work I would probably just bite the bullet and keep him for the year or buy him out.

Buyout isn't horrible. $687k on the cap this year. $2 million next year, but I'm already thinking that next season might be a retooling year anyways with Matthews/Nylander new AAV's kicking in with Tavares still on the books, the team might take a step back that year regardless of the buyout.

If he's legit hurt, there's nothing stopping the team from putting him on LTiR. He's valuable in that respect and spending assets to move him is moving backwards.

If he's healthy he can still play in this league, staying healthy is the problem.

if I was a gm in need of a goalie, I'd take a one year flyer on him. It's better than dipping your toes into the UFA market where you'll have to pay more and also give out more term. See Edmonton and Campbell.

I hope we don't have to give up a lot but unfortunately I don't think anyone will be as desperate as we were last summer for goaltending

Buying out only makes the hit 2 mill and does it for two more years so I would prefer we don't do that basically not that much gain for two years of pain

Nothing. His buyout isn't even that bad. For 2023-24 it's a $687.5K cap hit then $2M in 2024-25. I don't even think there would be a worry about his M-NTC either. If BT can find any team to take him and possibly play him, I guarantee that Murray would waive his no trade. He clearly wants to play still and that's the biggest issue: he's fragile but is still driven to get back into the lineup.

Trading a first to dump him and then blaming it on Dubas would be hilarious if it didn't hurt the Leafs which it would. The excuses made for Dubas ineptness were amusing over the years. Raise your hand if you want to give up a first to move this guy? What, no takers... Exactly. Only Dubas is that bad.

What are you going on about?

I would think it would cost significantly less than what Dubas received from Ottawa.
What were the riches Dubas accepted again?

Dubas inherited a 3rd in 2023 and a 7th in 2024 the deal.

The 3rd he shipped off already to the Blues along with a 1st, and 2nd in the ROR and Acciari deal.

Blues Traded • Ryan O'Reilly • Noel Acciari in a 3-team trade with Maple Leafs, Wild for • Adam Gaudette • Mikhail Abramov • 2023 first round pick (from Maple Leafs) (?-?) • 2023 third round pick (Senators pick from Maple Leafs) (?-?) • 2024 second round pick (from Maple Leafs) (?-?) on 2023-02-17

A 5th or higher at the most. No harm in keeping him and putting him on LTIR after 20 games played.
