Proposal: Matt Barzal comes Home- NYI and Van draft day trade

Just because Vancouver is dumb enough to trade a player coming off a 100pt season for a mid 1st and an injury prone forward doesn’t mean that other teams will make a similar mistake

Wow Mynio sounds amazing you should keep him and offer lekkerimaki instead.

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with what a quality offer for barzal is because a mid 1st ain’t getting it done

It would hurt, especially losing that cost-controlled young forward for a guy with a pretty substantial cap hit...but i'd do VAN 1st + Lekkerimaki for Barzal, as a Canucks fan. If that's what it took.

Really, Willander is the only futures piece that i wouldn't put on the table...and unless the Isles do end up moving Dobson, that probably isn't even the most needed piece for them anyway.

Canucks 1st round pick (10th-15th overall)
Sawyer Mynio
3rd round pick

for

Matt Barzal

Islanders can choose to do a full rebuild by having 2 first round picks in the top 15, or use their 2x first round pick as ammo to do a quick retool via trade. Along with openning up the 9 mil of cap space from moving Barzal.

Islanders get Canuck's 1st round pick which will be around 10th-15th as well as next years 3rd plus Sawyer Mynio who is one of the top D prospects in Juniors. Made Team Canada this year at World Jrs as well.
Mynio just keeps getting better and better and projects to be top 4 Dman with a shot at Top pairing 2 way D.

LOL, try again.

You really think Barzal, who has only had 2x point per game season in his 8 year career is going to get more than ..

A top10-15 1st round pick and a high end prospect plus a draft pick?

I think Barzal is great but he isnt on same tier as guys like Miller or Eichel etc....

We havent even spoken about the elephant in the room which is injury cocnerns... add that up with 22 team no trde clause and i think 1st, 3rd , top prospect is exactly what he would get.

You sound like that Wild fan who insisted the Isles would be lucky to get a 2nd and a decent prospect for Brock Nelson.

If there's a Barzal trade (about a 1% chance in my opinion), it wouldn't be for a pick unless it is Top 7-8. It would more likely be a hockey trade for two young roster players, or a roster player and a top prospect.

So like a defenseman who’s statline reads like a career minor leaguer? I loved those mock ups on here.

Not looking to trade Barzal but if the isles did decide to go that route I don’t love Vancouvers prospects or young players they’d part with.

To Vancouver- Barzal

To NYI- rights to Tom Wallinder + 2025 1st + 2025 3rd + 2026 2nd

Would Add Pulock for 2026 1st top5 protected.

Since Montreal was mentioned a few times and Barzal speaks fluent French.
Habs not giving up Demidov

To MTL- Barzal

To NYI- Rights to Michael Hage + Owen Beck + 2025 1st + 2026 2nd

No I actually agree that’s a much better offer for barzal. A mid 1st + a high end prospect is someone like lekkerimaki.

It’s not Mynio no matter how much some nucks fans want to try and convince us he has that kind of value.

I was just told that he hasnt played Center since Horvat was traded there. but even with that factored, I would offer Elias pettersson the dman over Mynio if the return is Barzal. If NYI adds enough, even Willander.

I'd rather keep the pick than get another petterson clone. 20m invested in those 2 guys isn't a formula to win.

He’s better on the wing due to his play style. Horvat is also better defensively (plus faceoffs) so that factors in as well.

The comparisons to the JT Miller trade leaves out a couple of major factors which limited his value.

1. He has a reputation as a locker room cancer.

2. Miller is 32 years old and while still productive, there are diminishing future expectations for a player that age. At the time of the trade he had 9 goals in 40 games. Including this season he has 6 years left at $8M/year. No thanks.
