Mats Zuccarello-Awesome Part II

Zucc is a tiny person who has played only a handful of NHL games. Meanwhile our superstar goalie let's an unscreened slap shot go through him and then scores into his own net. Yet it's Zucc that lost us the game.

Here's to Zucc losing the game tonight with his lazy backcheck in OT,

Do not agree at all. The pass from Brassard to Nash was poor, and Nash couldnt handle the puck and the Rangers gave a way a huge rush to the Bruins. Zucc worked hard to stop him.

And the blooper by Hank.....

And Zucc lost the game? Seriously...?

Btw, Brass should have given the Rangers the lead on that shot midway into the third from the perfect pass from Zucc.....

Brutal read by Zuccarello on the OT goal. He tried his best to get back into the play and catch up with Marchand but all he had to do was play Bergeron and not try an risky poke check and then the last defender can take Marchand we Bruins likely don't score.

Zuke and Hank are in a small group on this team you can forgive for a mistake, cuz they are off-setting it with way more good than bad. Plus, they're both always in the thick of the play where mistakes are going to happen. Without those two, and a few others, the NYR are golfing right now. I have a way bigger problem with some of the top paid guys being MIA all playoffs. I have no interest in injury excuses. If you tell the coaches you can play, then you play your damn heart out. Not happening with nearly enough urgency from some of our high paid guys.

By all means, Zuccarello has a part of this. But the big mistake was made by Brassard with a brutal turnover. But if you look at the replay, you can see that he would have had no chance of catching up to Bergeron either.

Btw, norwegian newspapers who always have been pro-zuccarello more or less blames him for the loss..... Surprisingly actually when pretty much all of their articles have been extremely positive....

Zuccarello's backcheck wasnt lazy. He was simply overmatched physically on his way back. To be fair, thats not even his assignment without that stupid pass by Brassard.

Since it is kinda obvious that this goal isn't exactly zuke's fault.. I get the feeling that the journalists in Norway also read this forum, wait for a post game comment about zuke and go with it.

The rest of the newspapers just copied the text from vg.no I noticed so its not like they even saw the game. Like others have pointed out, its the pass from Brassard that awards the Bruins the goal scoring chance and the little guy honestly gave it his best to stop it.. Its a fluke and it happens and its always ****** but that's just hockey sometimes.

I think Zucc had an alright game, he was far from the worst Ranger and Richards seriously needs to get back in the swing of things.

Can someone explain why not just trip Marchand on that play though? Even though the Bruins' PP looked great (more so our PK being awful, I don't know what that was), chances of them scoring on a PP are much lower than on a tip in front.

The pass would have been fine had Chara not gotten the very tip of his stick blade on it, but it was risky in OT none the less.

I take more issue with the way Stralman failed to block the passing lane than I do with Zucc's backchecking.

Last night he was par for the course compared to the other Rangers forwards, the entire team in fact. He has been one of the better players down the stretch and certainly in round 1. I can forgive a bad game/play. It happens.

What about Lundqvist on that goal ? He admitted it was his fault too. He had his eyes just on the puck and ignored Marchand. You could blame everybody who were out there Brassard, Zucc, Hank, McDonagh

Goaltenders on normal teams are told to focus on the shooter.

No. Back checkers are told to pick up the guy without the puck.

Eh, can't really blame Lundqvist on a perfect tip right in front of him.

I just saw a couple of similiar incidents from LA Kings vs SJ Sharks. Quick had no problems with these types of situations. Lunqvist had his stick wrong placed and it was too easy for Marchand to put it between his legs. Marchand being so near should have been easy to stop him with sticks/pads. Bergeron was never dangerous since he was in the corner.

Why did Lundvist take the blame for the goal ?

Blaming the goaltender for a VERY well executed 2 on 1 tip in barely a foot in front of him is insane. Zucc backchecked hard, but wasn't quite fast enough, and got boxed out and out muscled by a larger, more experienced Marchand.

I hate rat-face, but that was a great play.

Zooks was the one guy who actually worked hard to try and make it a 2 on 2 instead of a 2 on 1. Go back and watch the replay. You will see some Rangers just cruising by their own bench (in Boston's end of the ice) when the goal was scored.

I am not blaming only Lundqvist on the OT-goal. But a worlclass goalie should be able to get those. And he said it himself. But everybody who were out there could be blamed. But it was a great pass from Bergeron.

We started awful against the Caps. And now against Bruins we did ok and lost. I am not conserned about moving on to 3 rd round. They will improve as the series go on

This is what Henke says, where he takes the blame for the OT goal..

I gotta see the guy in the middle," he said. "I was too focused on the puck and I kind of knew he was coming in the middle, but I was too locked in on the puck. That's why I made a stretch move instead of coming with my pads together. It's a technical thing and it happened fast, but sooner or later when you face a lot of chances like that you're going to make a mistake."

It isn't one play that was the problem. Even if we were to assign blame, it would be on Brassard, not Zucc or Hank. The fact is, the way we were playing in OT, it was just a matter of time. The chances o f the opposition scoring for any reason were much higher than ours.

0-3 in OT this postseason. I believe we are 3-13 since the lockout.

Mats Zuccarello.

This is his thread. Debate goal tending and Hank somewhere else.

Zuccarello's 2 biggest weaknesses were on display during the OT goal. 1 that can be fixed, and 1 that cannot.

1. Simply put, he made a bad read on the rush. He needs to hang back and cover for McDonagh there. He was too deep in the offensive zone and it was an uphill battle trying to get back. This can be fixed.

2. Marchand simply outmuscled the little guy on the way up the ice. This is something that likely cant be fixed.
