There's probably a team out there who would offer that after a rebound season.

Personally, i want nothing to do with him at $2.95M for a couple more years. Especially since Canucks can't really afford to spend on a guy like that with all the other things they need to do.

But just in general, i wouldn't really want him. He was basically a cap dump they couldn't move this time last year. Bounceback season is nice, but i still don't think he's anything more than a very mediocre Bottom-6 winger with few real standout, impact attributes other that decent speed.

More like bounce back half season.

October thru December:
25 GP, 6 G, 13A, 19 PTS, +12

January thru April:
47 GP, 5 G, 11 A, 16 PTS, -16

Still a speedy usable player but he’s not gonna rack up nearly 17 minutes a night on most teams. Outside of a couple of 20 game hot streaks in his career, he’s been a pure bottom six type player.

Two years at $3 million isn’t going to be very attractive given his history. It’s not like terrible it’s just not very appealing IMO.

I’d like his speed in Montreal but wouldn’t be willing to pay a lot for him as his contract isn’t great.

I realize it doesn’t meet the OP’s objective, but would Armia at 3.4M for just next year be of interest?

I think the only way he gets moved is if the Sens are earmarking his money to fill another position of need. Otherwise he still fills a hole on this team as a speedy PK bottom-sixer.

A swap for another contract likely doesn’t work unless it’s a shutdown RD who could use a change of scenery. A pick obviously makes sense if it’s to open up capspace for one of the top 5/6 RD options in FA.

I want neither Chris not Brandon, but would dump Joseph given the oppportunity. I doubt that opportunity presents itself.

Joseph's salary is fine given his production and highly valuable intangibles. He's one of the fastest players in the league, plays with jam and motor and is a PK specialist. He just has zero finish, but he contributes well out there relative to what he's paid.

Our GM would be an absolute moron to trade him for a mid round pick. Especially under some dumb scheme to "lure" a player via his brother.

And I guarantee, despite what HF joes might think, Joseph for a mid round pick would have a ton of GM takers.

Counter Proposal: I'll give you a mid round pick to stop posting this nonsense.

Honestly this level of production is still fine for what he's paid and what else be brings to the table beyond his production.

I wouldn't pay anything of note for him, but I'd throw a 4th to add him to my team's 3rd line if I was a contender.

Matthew Joseph is a good bottom 6 player on every single hockey team in the NHL and his $2.95M is perfectly fine. Pair him with a coach that can get the most out of him and you have the type of useful role player that every deep team needs to win cups.

People are a little too selective with their memories around here.

No, Armia decent player. Likely dealt at deadline for a 2nd. Retained

Would Senators fans do Joseph and Forsberg for Jarry? Ottawa gets an upgrade in net without really having to pay much of value for it, while the Penguins get a pretty nice bottom-6 addition (while they also have Joseph's brother on the team). The money swap is pretty close in that deal, it's the Penguins adding about $600k AAV.

Carrying both Jarry and Korpisalo would be a wildly inefficient use of cap both short term and long term.

The issue is Ottawa needs to upgrade in net and the only way they're getting out of that Korpisalo deal is by buying him out.

So it's either go with a $5 million goalie addition (pretty much Ullmark or Jarry) and run with Korpisalo as the backup or buy out Korpisalo, or not upgrade in net.
