Mathieu Darche to Become GM of the Islanders

No way of telling how Darche is going to turn out, but it's probably a smart choice by the Islanders, given the available options.

Bergevin has his qualities, but he has not proven himself to be a competent builder.
His specialty is bargain bin shopping. He can make players into great bottom/middle 6ers as reclamation projects but cannot acquire/develop any high-end talent.

Yes, he helped build Tampa.

Now we will see if he's that guy in New York.

he's got A tough job, but as easy first step with that #1 pick.

I wouldn't give him too much credit in building a cup winner, he was hired the offseason before they won, they were pretty much built.

But he's a former NHLer with senior management experience outside of hockey and as a part of a cup winning, well run team. That's an impressive CV.

Excellent news for Islander fans, not so good for sliver of hope for Sharks fans who were perhaps hoping that the Isles would pass on Schaefer.

General feeling is if Islanders come out of the draft with Hagens, it will be Upper Management pushing for it due to marketing possibilities.
