Mathieu Darche to Become GM of the Islanders

As much as the Shark need someone like Schaefer, I just can't see them trading up. I will say that there's a chance they do not take Misa at 2 as I think Grier rates Martone highly.

Don't disagree, but just saying...

Now I could see a team #5 or later wanting to get into the top 5 and being more willing to trade up.

That said just so rare to see any top 5 picks traded - Much less #1 overall.

When I hear his name I think of the “aspen” episode of South Park

Seemingly a smart move. He’s been a GM-in-waiting for a while now but is still young and coming from a winning organization…and isn’t a recycled old dinosaur. The right mixture of experience, training and runway left for a first time hire.

Time will tell, but this could be a breath of fresh air after Lou’s regime. For the first time in a while, there are things happening on the Island that seemingly are pointing to a potentially exciting future and a real change.

This could be the next Bill Zito, Flordia Hockey is killing it now and Darche seems like he could establish himself as a top GM in 2-3 years from now
Why? I’m not saying he won’t be a competent GM but just because he’s coming from Tampa doesn’t mean he’ll be a top NHL GM. Look at Yzerman’s “second act” so far, and he actually had GM experience.

Good for the Islanders for making big and long over due moves. I wonder how many players are growing facial hair this summer

Credit to them, give me upside of proven mediocrity any day. Shanahan and Darche could be a real good pairing. Glad to see some young blood in the GM ranks.

Shanny is the one NYI fans should be concerned about, not say he did nothing good here, because that's not true, he built a good, young, fast, exciting team that's a fact.

He then proceeded to get in his own way and at the end of the day because he got in his own way he never reached the heights he should have in Toronto.

Smart not to hire Bergevin. Interested in seeing the direction the team goes. They are not a 1st overall pick away from being relevant.
