Height 6’o
Weight 189
Birth Coquitlam British Columbia
Contract Remaining 7 years $9,150,000

Not crazy about the contract.

Seattle
Eduard Sale + 2025 2nd Round pick

Vancouver
Tom Willander + 2025 2nd Round pick

Calgary
Samuel Honzek + 2025 2nd Round pick

Utah
Dmitry Simashev + 2025 2nd Round pick

Winnipeg
Colby Barlow + 2025 2nd Round pick

Vancouver might not have the cap space.
Seattle will get Gourde and Tanev off the cap next year.
Winnipeg will get Iafallo,Appleton off the cap next year.

This is a cap dump for the Islanders
Bern, is this you incognito, making this proposal?

Isles will have to steal Lou's phone or accept a basis of Barzal for Kadri is a terrifying possibility. Getting Conroy to block Lou might work just as well though.

Rather not do the calgary proposal, but I don't think Conroy would block Lou for it.

I don't see why Islanders should trade Barzal. With him out of our line up seems like Lee-Horvat-Pageau have made up a pretty good line, so along with the Nelson line, we could use Barzal-Duclair-??? to give us 3 lines that can score.

They are winning without him.
Hard to even know if this thread is serious but I’ll engage nevertheless.

Barzal is a cap dump? That’s one of the worst takes I’ve read lately and that’s saying something. You’re disappointed with his play? Sure. I feel the same way but he’s still a valuable commodity even at his cap hit.

As for the “winning without him” reference: Patty Roy is a very good coach and the Isles are not devoid of talent. They’re in the mushy middle and can be competitive on any given night. Regrettably for this Isles fan, they also have no realistic chance at competing for a Cup this season.

Fleming island, Fl
Barzal won't be traded. guy potted 80 points last year on the Isles pop gun offense and PP. The team is playing better lately from their dismal start. Long season and #13 will certainly come back hungry to help the team. Put him back at center and let the kid run.

What do the Isles need?

Buffalo is looking to make a big trade from media reports. Assuming that Buffalo and the Isles are talking, what would the Isles be looking for?

broken collerbone so he's not going anywhere anytime soon .

if anything , Roy's eyes are opened to more possibilities when Duclair and Barzal do return .

I'd start using Barzal on the penalty kill for starters

I am more open to trading Nelson though

If it was for futures, James Hagens and other blue chip prospects. No a Nick Robertson equivalent from Buffalo doesn’t count.

Uh what?

I asked what the Isles needs were. I didn't propose anything.
Outside of high end prospects to restock the farm system, the only way I see Barzal getting moved is a hockey trade. Buffalo doesn’t move any of the equivalent top 6 forwards it would take if Barzal was on the table.

Cowan
Jarnkrok? (We need to send back some kind of $$, he's a fine bottom 6 winger, 2.1M x2 more years)

Not sure what else you want? prospects? picks?

We had Chadwick...Hildeby...other picks...

If Conroy, as described, thinks there is Rantanen upside still(or atlkeast higher than barzal), why would he trade it for a 1b center? The preseason showed us he atleast isn't a bust. I personally don't see Rantanen upside, but definitely higher ceiling than Barzal.

Isles would pass at the original offer you posted. Upgrade the prospect, make the 1st a 2025 instead and then start from there.

Leafs don't have a 25 1st unfortunately and Cowan is probably considered our best prospect, think he's in a lot of the top prospect lists for the NHL, just won a bunch of MVP awards etc in the OHL.

Leafs would likely have to add secondary pieces like a 2nd or an additional prospect.

Also open to Horvat instead if the price is lower.

Still not going to work. Jarnkrok just won’t do it as the offset. Isles have enough of those 4th liners at the moment. Horvat isn’t available. The only way I actually see Barzal being moved is either he wants out or a hockey trade with a comparable player (play driving offensive threat with a similar contract) coming back in return. The Leafs aren’t moving a comparable player.

Interesting. I never offered anything from Buffalo’s side, so you’re just assuming things.

So we’re still at square one. Any chance you, or any other Isles fan, just answers my only question? What do the Isles need?

Proven top 6 scoring that can play responsible defensive hockey.

Okay I wasn't sure if the ask was futures / rebuild type pieces of more of a hockey trade, if it is a hockey trade, yea, we're not good partners, I understand.
