If he's so great then why didn't Pittsburgh want him? They are contending for the Cup and prefer Petry? they also swindled Poehling off of us for free (even though his value is low). You think Pittsburgh management is dumb? They have 3 cups to our 0 cups since the 2005 draft.

Look, I wanted Petry traded, I'm just unhappy with the return. A young prospect and pick would have been so much better. They should have retained salary to find a better deal somewhere.

I can live with Matheson, I have no choice he's a Hab I wish him the best and hope he gets better with age. Go Matheson Go! But so far I'm not overly impressed with his performance. He's shown some good things, the points are there but he doesn't always pass the eye test.

Matheson had no training camp and was injured again more recently.

what I saw was one guy about to get the puck and the other guy ready to SMASH HIM INTO THE BOARDS so the front guy turns to hit first. so it comes down to this. If you dont let me SMASH YOU you get a penalty
It's not really a dirty play, but Mattheson hit Staal about a half-second early. Timing off, he has not played that much lately.

The two kneeing plays and the hit from behind on Xhekaj were worse, and Gudas should be fined for embellishment.

Neither Staal nor Matheson are particularly aggressive players. I would agree, there was no malicious intent, Matheson's timing was off. If he had waited one second later, everyone would have been applauding his move. It was a hockey play gone wrong. Regardless, as with many stick related infractions, its not the intent , but the result. In all the circumstances, the fine was appropriate.

so under your thinking. Chara should have been fined and or suspended for the rest of the year, due to the result of almost killing Patches. WHAT does anyone think I forgot about this.

No one has forgotten about the Chara hit. But where was the illegality of that hit? The only penalty that could or should have been awarded was for a stronger player hitting a weaker player. Or more importantly, a penalty or liability, to the league for allowing players to compete in venues that clearly, and foreseeably, created and presented a hazard.

Patches did not have the puck. The puck was by then 30 feet away by that time but Patches had speed to pass Chara so Chara stopped him by knocking Patches into the boards and was right at the wrong place. The result was Patches out for the rest of the year with a broken neck and Chara got NOTHING. Not 2 not 5 not game and NO FINE NO suspension, a complete get out of jail card because he is CHARA

Chara did get 5 and a game I think, but no suspension.

Today, I think he would have been suspended. The intent was to hit him hard despite not having the puck.

It was super dirty, as Chara had been going after Pacioretty all seasoin because he did not like a harmless shove he got. Chara should have been suspended for a gratuitous hard slash to the back of Patches' knee one or two games earlier.
