Raymond's quietly on his way to low 20 goal production, making only $1m. It seems as though, the goals he scores all tend to be when the score is either tied, or the difference is 1 goal.

Trading him would've obviously been a pretty big mistake... but the question is, how do we go forward with likely increased salary demands?

I think he gets pretty underrated by our fans. Yeah, he's soft, but he's still decent defensively. He's also got tonnes of speed, a lot of offensive talent, and is pretty solid on both the PP and PK. He's one of the more offensively talented 3rd liners in the league, and is on a dirt cheap contract. If he'd sign a 3 year deal at $2 mil per year, I'd do that in a second.

Put Raymond with two good defensive forwards, and you've got yourself a 3rd line that can shut teams down AND score.

Meh. Nice production at a cheap rice but as shocking as it is I wouldn't really miss him if we didn't re-sign him.

Not quite good enough to be consistently on the 2nd line (great player to have fill in when there's an injury). Not quite the kind of player you want to have on your 3rd line. It really depends on the other options that are out there but at this point I would like to resign him. He isn't perfect, but he's an all situation kind of player who has fairly consistently been a 20-20 player.

Invisible until he isn't. Fact is that these days he's been pretty visible. Making some clutch plays.

I've dogged Raymond at time but man can he flat out snipe.

And pressure spots too. If he keeps contributing big points he is very valuable to us down the stretch.

He's a loyal guy. Had a scare when he broke his back in the SCF, an extra inch in the wrong direction...he may have never played again. Has a 1-2 year old son. Throw him some decent term, and he may be willing to take a lower salary. With his past, and present situation, seems like he may value security over $$.

Someone is gonna offer him some cash though, don't just score 20-25 goals and not get some calls in this day and age. Hope he stays with you guys, didn't follow the NHL until the Leafs were bottom feeders so I kinda missed all the hate age. Love watching Leafs games now, JVR too, (sick shorty between the 2 of em tonight! hate LA soooo much). Always get Leafs games on TV ofcourse, and I like to watch his games live, still one of my favorite players.

Not the best playmaker, a pretty good finisher... 18 goals I believe this year so he's providing secondary scoring - Which funny enough is a huge problem in Vancouver. Sometimes you don't no what you have until its gone. I wouldn't commit to him long term at big dollars but a 1-2 year deal at 2.5 million wouldn't be bad. However this type of player is replaceable and he likely wants bigger money which im not interested in doing, but that's the thing you would still have to replace him if you do let him go.

He will be looking for long term security and I don't like his game enough to commit to that.

He earned his paycheck so far though.

Mystifies me the negativity towards him on here,I think he's been a terrific acquisition,he skates like the wind, dishes the puck well to team mates, very similar to Kessel working the half wall on the PP and always a threat on the PK.

He's one of my favourite Leafs and I just can't see what's not to like.

I complain about Raymond a lot. I think he's a moron a lot, a puck hog, weak, and loses the puck too much.

THAT BEING SAID, if he re-signs for around 2 million and stays on our 3rd line, he is a fantastic person to have. I think a lot of you are understating how good it is to have a 20 - 20 guy on our THIRD line.

I love May Ray. Too bad he's due for a big raise that we may be unable to afford.

He's already got 40P in 68GP.

And what a clapper. Accurate, amazing form, fast, hard. He'd be playing the point on a second PP unit on many teams.

I hope he takes a paycut to stay to reward Nonis for his loyalty, but you've got to think that he's going to go somewhere else for a pay day that he absolutely deserves.

i think raymond wont be back. he has played as well as you can expect for $1 million and is worth $2.5-3.5 but i think it is going to be a numbers game for the leafs both money wise and roster wise. i think most would prefer to resign kulemin and mclemment and possibly bolland before we worry about raymond. i also think that with the amount of players we have locked up we need to keep some potential spots available for our prospects to work themselves into the league. by next summer damigo, ashton, holland, and possibly leivo should all be ready for full time nhl action. as well as raymond has played and stepped up for us we shouldnt lock up more bottom 6 players to multi year deals.

imo a bottom 6 of leivo-holland-clarkson and damigo-mclemment-ashton/bodie would be just as effective as raymond-bolland-clarkson and damigo/ashton-mclemment-bodie/orr and at a fraction of the cost.

I have been critical of him because I don't think he's a fit but for the money and production, I have to slap myself from complaining to much.

Out of the four forwards we have to re-sign that we can't stop discussing, honestly I would sign Bolland, Raymond, and Kulemin. That is a very good third line. A healthy Bolland can take McClement's spot as a the top PKer and defensive player on the team plus more time for Bozak on the PK and in dying seconds.

Why not?

A 3rd line, even if used in a shutdown role, has to produce. Raymond is the ideal 3rd line producer -- he doesn't rely heavily on his linemates joining the rush with him, and is very opportunistic. I see him similar in many ways to a younger Kris Versteeg -- the perfect 3rd line producer.

i agree that he is a quality 3rd line winger but at a million dollars people are a lot more forgiving with him. next year he could ask for ~$3 million. i think at $3 million it wont be worth it for the leafs. there are teams out there who need bottom 6 depth. those will be the teams lining up for raymonds services.

Well, let's say the cost to resign Raymond is $3m X 3-4 years.

What's our better alternative?

I like him. But it's another MacArthur situation. Buyer beware this summer, he can always go back to his ineffective ways that got him out of Vancouver. It was a 1 year deal and he was clearly playing for contract this year. If he wants more than $2mil (which he should be able to get), then we need to let another team make that mistake. We have plenty of wingers in the Marlies that can replace him next year at a lower price.
