Mason McTavish - One of the greatest plays in WJC history?

It's up there for sure.

The Eberle goal was in the semi-finals actually. Doesn't make it much less significant though since elimination was imminent.

That’s my point, McTavish’s play was in a sudden death moment in a gold medal game. Eberle’s wasn‘t in a gold medal game.

I was adding to the post that poster was quoting.

Bedard's stick was there too and the puck wasn't going to go in unless McTavish knocks it over Bedards stick.
Nope, Bedard didn’t have any chance in preventing the goal there. His stick is just way too far. If McTavish didn’t hit the puck right at the goal line, it definitely would have been a goal. An amazing defensive play by McTavish definitely. Greatest that I have ever seen, when thinking of what was on the line with it.

This is one of those moments that shows how fine the margins can be between winning and losing. Finland or Canada winning literally is the difference of a fraction of a second in his stick movement or millimetres of where his stick ended up. TONS of skill in this play, but also TONS of luck. It's just a bonkers play all around and McTavish will always be remembered for it.

You could literally just feel the air be sucked out of the building as the puck was flipping over Garand.

I still am in awe with all the chips on the line, and about as bad of sequence you could ask for, that he makes that play to save a Gold medal. Outstanding composure.

Pure f***ing euphoria once that KJ goal went in. What a fantastic moment in Canada WJC lore.

I'll be a prisoner of the moment and say it's the best play for Canada, all things considered.
