It’s inconceivable for Mac to be traded as a 21 year old baring an overpay…

Well I’ve flipped… Verbeek would likely trade anyone (except Carlsson) for a subpar return. Time to see a real talented GM make a move… maybe the Rangers get Mac for Kaapo. Verbeek would probably even throw in a 2nd and eat a bad contract like an idiot.

So I'm taking a break and reading ESPN on the NHL (yes, yes, I know), specifically this article:
And in their list of "elite pending free agents" they're sugesting as up for trade, they include... Mason McTavish?

I dunno if I'm looking at wild-ass speculation or if there's actually legitimately something there. In any case, what would the Ducks be looking for? (I imagine it'd be a heck of a lot since it seems more than a little early to give up on him, but if there's Something Else going on...)
What would you want from Montreal?

the problem is he hasn't shown he's a solid young piece. now that could just be because the coach is an absolute moron who's dragging down the entire team with his terrible system or mctavish just isn't the guy we think he is.
He has definitely shown that. Last year and in moments this year just having a rough go. Holy recency bias.

He's still scoring at the 3rd highest pace on the team (behind Terry and Vatrano, tied with Strome and Carlsson), why does he keep getting cycled through the lineup? One day he's L1, one day L2, next day he's L4 and no special teams time. Wouldn't he benefit from having a regular set of linemates and enough minutes to develop? He was a 42 point guy in only 64 games last season and does have that 1st round draft pick pedigree so he's not terrible, and could see him have a Cole Sillinger type progression?.

Maybe it's been said by other Flames fans, but I'd do Andersson + for McTavish in a heartbeat. + could be Jersey's 1st.

If were moving McTavish its for forward help, we have the lowest offensive #'s in the league.... McTavish if moved would be moved for something better up front.

Defense:
RHD: Trouba,Gudas, Helleson, Luneau
LHD: Mintyukov Dumolin, Lacombe Zellweger

Too many young players are stagnating offensively. They need to look at a coaching change before trading these guys.

During Cronin’s time in Loveland, it was a theme on the Avs board that forwards go there to die. The counter to that was always that the Avs are bad at drafting outside of the top 10, so Cronin would get a pass.
This is identical to his time in Anaheim and what’s said about the team and him.

The Ducks are more concerned about staying above the cap floor than with unloading contracts. If Fowler, Dumoulin, and possibly Gibson are gone this year, then also removing Gudas' deal from the equation leaves the Ducks in need of heavy spending just to keep up with the floor. Tough position to negotiate from.

Well, he's had stretches where he's looked fantastic, like early last season when it appeared he was on the verge of stardom. But like a lot of young guys, it's only in little stretches. Still, at least there have been those flashes of top 6 play, so we know the talent is legitimately there, as opposed to those guys where you watch them never do much of anything and think, "why was he drafted high again?"

I suspect they'll stick with him, but if a shot at a star player comes up he's the one they'd part with.
I’ve always liked McT, “Bulldog” type player in my eyes. I don’t know much about his personality, but he seems like a serious kid who wants to be great, not just good. It is hard to judge young players cause of the inconsistency. Like you said though, he has shown flashes of being a top 6 player in this league. I still think that’s where he ends up. Now whether that’s in Anaheim or not, I have no idea. I’m honestly shocked his name has popped up…but I guess if you get a top player, it might be hard to pass up. Anyway, hope he turns it up here and gets going

As a Ducks fan I definitely am not answering any calls on him. Young and developing, bad teams and bad systems plus some injuries. I get his trajectory has been up and down but he’s always been a guy you’d want turning into a Sam Bennett at his peak. I think getting close to that is still reasonable.

This also shows just how hard rebuilds are. Even if Carlsson gets close to being our Barkov (long ways to go lol), we still need to find our Tkachuk, Verhaege, Forsling, 1G, Lundell + depth. And yes I get the Panthers aren’t the only blueprint for SC success but man :/

Right now the Ducks' biggest problem is that they have no true star players. They have older veterans who are decent, but only decent. The kids all have shown promise ... but nothing consistent, which is not surprising for their age. The one guy in his prime is Terry, but on a good team he'd be like the 3rd best forward, not the top one.

Hard to win without anyone elite. If an opportunity arises to parlay some of the young pieces into a legit star in his prime, they should consider it. Because if they just wait for 3 or 4 guys to develop, it might still be another several years (and never any guarantees it happens at all regardless of draft pedigree).

If NJ re-signs Kovacevic and has their Top 6 set in stone, I wouldnt be opposed to a Nemec for McTavish swap

Is that fair value !? Both young, seemingly been over-taken by others in their teams respective depth charts.

NJ still has Casey waiting in the wings and their current Top 6 is playing so well, see no need in keeping him if we can get a big upgrade

Addressed it already in the thread but no, a McTavish/Nemec swap would be opposite to the Ducks needs. They have plenty of talented young Dmen and lack scoring.

Doesn’t fill a need for the Ducks. They need a forward, and if they did get a defensemen it wouldn’t be Nemec. Stylistically he is not a great fit.

Verbeek gushed about this kid on Chiclets in the off-season. He was great last year besides the penalties. No chance he’s moved.
