Player Discussion Mason Lohrei

I'm sorry but the concept that a player could hit 50 pts. several times in his career but 60 pts. would be a outlier monumental achievement is a bit strange.

No, you should be thrilled because it isn't happening.
This take is going to age like unpasteurized milk.

Will age better than your "call me crazy but I wouldn't trade Lohrei for Chychrun" look
from two years ago.

Ok?

I do

Lorhei was another 4th round homerun, if you're watching him closely and then stepping back to 10 thousand feet you know what's going on.

He was a stellar grab by our drafting team. It's clearly their late round success that has given them false confidence in the first round.

Actually, 2nd rounder.

Maybe a single.

I’m of course incredibly high on the player. To me he looks exhausted. Absolutely cooked. He’s been thrust into huge minutes.

He played 20+ minutes 7 times through January and over 21 only twice.

Since Feb 1 he only had 7 games below 21 minutes until they’ve eased up a bit on him these last 4.

He’s been pretty bad lately but he’s a rookie offensive defenseman playing with a completely inept offensive team and dragging around Ian Mitchell and Andrew Peeke. I just think he’s fried.
Yeh same thoughts basically

We learned a lot about him

He will work on a few things off season and probably deployed a tad different next season

didn't even bother looking at Lorhei's stats, always been focused on his play and I've been high on him since college. 5 goals and 28 assists (so far) on this shitsoup of a season is very good folks.

appreciate what you do have

We all could if assigned write a paper on what we love and don’t like

There are things he can work on

Film alone on positioning

Boxing out is an issue- stronger and probably less respect to his opponents

I’d have him watch Slavin defend although that -5 the other night v Pastrnak….

Nobody wants this kid to fail, but many are questioning why he has regressed, don't worry about his stats they mean nothing, it is his overall game, if you cannot see that a visit to your optometrist would be advised.

A game off wouldn't be the worst thing for him. He's lost the confidence that his game needs. I don't really care if he makes mistakes at this point in their season, but he's stopped trying to do the things he excels at and has become way too passive and reactionary. Give him a game to watch from above and hit reset.
I saw that too and was going to post the same thing. I don't think a game will do much at this point, hopefully a summer reset will help.

my eye sight is REALLY bad but luckily it's so bad I never go anywhere without my glasses or contacts on/in

the whole team regressed (hell even Pasta didn't look like Pasta in the first half). Im not going to target a 24 year old defensemen with the body of a gazelle still learning the game in his first full NHL season. You can't teach his raw talent and size.

with you there and with the return of McAvoy and hopefully Lindholm next year, you can insulate who this kid lines up against next year and let him continue his development

What I will say about Sacco, it`s clear he hasn`t tried to reign in the kids creativity offensively. We need this kid to work with Z or Quaider at how to play in his own zone though cuz whatever Leach is telling him, ain`t working

Sounds like many posters are viewing Lohrei like he was a top draft pick that hasn't had time to reach full expectations.

Fact is he was a late 2nd round pick, 57th overall. He's 24, not 20. There is the possibility that he just doesn't have the makeup of a solid NHL defenseman.

My concern is he is making the same mistakes over and over again, and I do not find him to be an overly physical defenseman, but like Odaat says maybe getting Mc Avoy back will help, but I am still concerned.

Geekie thrived this year.
