Some of Lohrei's problem is that he's so tall and so thin. Speed guys shorter, which is 6'0 get under him and out leverage him physically.
The othe big one is the quick jum in level, barely time in the AHL, he brain hasn'slowed the game down.
We've seen what he can do with the puck on his stick in motion. A lot of his defensive mistakes have been caused by, my 1st point, not strong enough or doesn't know how to use his body effectively. 2 - he's mistake prone while not in motion - first reads after puck recoveries while static.
Are these fixable, maybe, he doesn't seem like a body type that will get much bigger at his age, especially without losing speed and agility.
He may wind up only being a PP specialist in the NHL.

Easier from up here
Former Norris trophy winner Roman Josi is -26 this season on a terrible Nashville team. He doesn't suck defensively. Lets judge the developing defenseman once things stabilize (hopefully) next season.
He doesn't have the foot speed\quickness or hand quickness to hit 60 points beyond one totally outlier year. No way is he in the same class as Morrissey or even Lane Hutson in skating ability or offensive stick skills. You should be thrilled if he its 50 points 3-4 times in his career.

This last stretch can't be good for his development. I'm surprised he hasn't joined Poitras in Providence for a change of scenery.
Obviously he has to improve his game (I'm not even that high on the player), my point is that he's looked progressively worse, so I'm not sure what the plan is...

I’m of course incredibly high on the player. To me he looks exhausted. Absolutely cooked. He’s been thrust into huge minutes.
He played 20+ minutes 7 times through January and over 21 only twice.
Since Feb 1 he only had 7 games below 21 minutes until they’ve eased up a bit on him these last 4.
He’s been pretty bad lately but he’s a rookie offensive defenseman playing with a completely inept offensive team and dragging around Ian Mitchell and Andrew Peeke. I just think he’s fried.
The Bruins are out of blueline options - when you see Ian Mitchell getting games you know the situation is dire. In different circumstances Lohrei might have benefited from more time in the AHL. You can’t send him back now. He’ll learn from this and be better and hopefully the team around him next season will give him a better environment to grow his game .

I'm sorry but the concept that a player could hit 50 pts. several times in his career but 60 pts. would be a outlier monumental achievement is a bit strange.

Nothing wrong with on the job training with a terrible team. He's forced to do too much with his crappy support, while learning the nuances. I look at his measurables and ability offensively and he's just elite. You have to figured out how to coach up his defensive game and get him a partner he can rely on so he can do what he does best IMO. He may not be a perfect player ever, but you need offensive catalysts like him back there.

He’s very disappointing. He would be ok in a non contact league that wasn’t overly competitive. I think he needs to find one.

A game off wouldn't be the worst thing for him. He's lost the confidence that his game needs. I don't really care if he makes mistakes at this point in their season, but he's stopped trying to do the things he excels at and has become way too passive and reactionary. Give him a game to watch from above and hit reset.

There’s only going to be about 30-35 defensemen who hit 40 points this year. Most of those are very recognizable top pair players, with a handful of outliers. It’s not hard to project Lohrei to 40+ points if he’s on a team that can actually score, and with increased minutes and PP time next year.
13-16 will hit 50 points. Chychrun is only at 47 points right now. A ceiling of a 50+ points defenseman is pretty legit.
He needs to get better defensively, though up until the past 5 games or so I think he had, especially on the walls in the DZone. But having an offensive defenseman of his size and skill is rare, and not something you toss aside because he’s not Jaccob Slavin.

He is soft as they come, you lose with players like him and Beecher. Dump them both at the draft.
I have never seen a player so overrated as Mason. He is what he is and will be. His D zone awareness is still college level.
There has been ZERO improvement in his game ZERO. In fact if its possible he is a worse player now than he was when he got here.
Cut bait and stop wasting time, let him be someone else's long term project. Beecher? Just don't qualify him if no-one wants him

Who needs offense anyway, right? This team has plenty of offense and almost too many options for a PP QB. Makes sense to “dump” Lohrei.
I am concerned is that he is regressing, and for all those fans that call for "play the kids" let them get the experience, that is bullshit if they are not ready. My question is why he is regressing, why does this organization, not develop, some of these kids, I don't care what any of us think of these individual players, but they draft a 1st rounder like Frederics, Beecher as not improved at all and I look at his physical tools, size, speed, why is he a failure, even this Lysell, what do we have there or what did we think we had there. Maybe these were not the best examples, but the message doesn't change.
Stop with this Power Play QB nonsense. again grossly overrated. Take away his even strength points and realize how many times this guy is on the ice when pucks go in his net. He is terrible, has no clue what's going on when he's out there.
A few odd dekes and rushes in the offensive zone doesn't qualify to me. Brutal player to watch. Ugly in fact.

I agree with most of this post Lohrei is very over rated by many posters on here . The question is, is his offensive upside enough to make make up for his defensive liabilities . If so at what cost . What he wants in negotiations for his next contract and his trade value need to be explored before making any commitment to him in the offseason .
Not the Beecher thread but give him nothing more than his qualifying offer
