Of course not. But how many people just keep throwing Lohrei’s plus minus as a barometer? And I’m not talking about Wally. Are you comparing the two? I hope not wow

Offensive defensemen take a bit to adjust. It’s not rocket appliances.
The +- has merit. Is he playing his minutes against the other teams' first line, primarily? What's the Qcomp? Who is the next closest D in +-? Lohrei, I believe, has the worst +- in the entire NHL.Of course not. But how many people just keep throwing Lohrei’s plus minus as a barometer? And I’m not talking about Wally.

You don't need to see his + - to see how bad he is back there. If he was putting up 50 points and generating constant 5 on5 offense then yes give him some rope.Of course not. But how many people just keep throwing Lohrei’s plus minus as a barometer? And I’m not talking about Wally.

I dont subscribe heavily to plus minus at all. Id just like to see what he can do as a forward.
A much less physical Peeke? What in the actual f*** are you watching? You don't need to see his + - to see how bad he is back there. If he was putting up 50 points and generating constant 5 on5 offense then yes give him some rope.
Take away his PP points and what is he? a much less physical Peeke? I always look at how guys handle board battles and willingness to get that puck back in defending your goal.
He to often gives up on those battles, it's tough to watch.
I truly hope you guys are correct and I will gladly eat crow but I'm not banking on it.
Hockey games? What are you watching?A much less physical Peeke? What in the actual f*** are you watching?
We obvi disagree on his potential but I do agree that his two failings right now are his strength on puck battles and his decision makings when he sends it across the crease...he lives dangerously because he is very confident and you can see that when he makes those passes or is able to skate just enough ahead of a forechecker taking the puck up ice close to his goalie. He does not give up on puck battles, he is trying to get the puck from the outside so he can quickly move up ice. This isn't Forbert who is strong and ties it up for someone else to come along and take it. Lohrei is looking to take the puck out and up by either passing or skating.Hockey games? What are you watching?
You hate Peeke so you are blinded. Peeke is always playing hard and takes and gives to win puck battles. It may not be pretty but GTFO here with Lohrei being even some what physical.
Thats half his problem on why he not a very good defenseman, the other half is his decision making.
Thats what Im watching.
Mason Lohrei will be a big part of our future.
I am not concerned about Lohrei so much as I am about the entire team. It's not just him, but it is definitely him.I hope so, and believe so as well. This season *should* be a big one for his development and I am not going to read a whole lot into his performance when the team around him is so bad and he is being asked to play above his head on a nightly basis. I am hopeful and confident that he goes into next year a better player for the experience and can settle into a role and usage that is more appropriate to where his game is. I am not worried about his so-called "failure to grow" this year or whatever. The season is packed with games and there really isn't time for he or anyone to sit down and analyze and develop specific practice routines to address issues. That will come in the summer and in camp.

Hopefully there's a big coming out party for a lot of these guys next season.
Agree. And I admit I really like his offensive mentality, but it shouldn't hurt his defense and he needs to find a balance...and that is what coaching is for. He has the talent, size, etc. Good point!Lorhei needs a mentality adjustment in his defensive zone. It seems like he is just thinking offense 100% of the time and cheats in his d zone for offense.
If the coaches can get through to him and he commits in the d zone to at least a passable level, he could be a legitimate second pairing guy in this league for the next five years.

I just think he needs experience. It didn't have to be in the NHL but it is what it is. He hasn't been a D all that long and the details of a D are missing. His stick position, the direction of his toe caps, his reads in odd man situations, his instincts on who to cover around the net... it's all wonky, but all fixable.Lorhei needs a mentality adjustment in his defensive zone. totally agree. He looks horrible without the puck. In this year, he is problem #56, I just hope he starts to show defensive improvement or find the next Chara to pair with him.Hughes was 21, not 24 like Lohrei is.
Forget the plus/minus numbers. How does he look to you? To me he looks dreadful defensively.
Agree Bill, obviously Lohrei and Krug aren’t same height and I understand those here who don’t watch the games may no that, but they are offensive defenseman who are looking to make plays. Lohrei will get better as he works with assistant coach LeachI just think he needs experience. It didn't have to be in the NHL but it is what it is. I agree with Dan, that he will be a Torey Krug type, without the physical limitations. A 60 point defenseman who wants to be a difference maker is a rare and beautiful thing.
