  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I don't see it with this kid, He plays D like a guy that belongs in the AHL, Points aside he's a black hole when he's on the ice. -30?

When he does get placed properly as the 5-6 guy next season can he handle tough third-forth line forechecks?

He loses a shit ton of battles.

Heart and soul players are battlers , he's far from that.
Agreed, I repeat: the lack of strength for a guy his size is a huge problem.
He also has bad offensive instincts-even for a rover. For example, instead of scrambling back to his point or going to the front at a good angle for the pass, he shoots from off angles toward the side of the net....Wrong move. He picked the short side and won us a playoff game in FLA last year that way, but absolutely the wrong move 100 times out of a 100.

Carlo was never a -30.

In fact, Carlo has been a plus player every season and only a minus player once in the playoffs.

We can all live with that.
I probably should have said it better, I was always a Carlo guy, what I referring to was, Carlo was called a black hole for his offense, although he did what he was called to "shut down D-man" sorry for the way I put it out there. Being truthful, I know he is young but, I am starting ride the fence with Loheri.

And when Carlo was here, he was a black hole on offense, but he has survived in the league for ten years What is the black hole you can live ?
Not a -30

He's not that good as an offensive player to carry that number. He better hit the gym in the offseason and be ready next season. He will be playing less so that should help

I think he gets his raise despite the lack of improvement and lack of additions to his game. A trade is the only other choice and he just does not have value now.
he has a ton of value, actually. teams would line up to get this guy and pay a heavy price.
he didn't start playing defense until 16. he's very raw and still has a lot to learn. have to
be patient with his progress (or don't be)

certainly that was the rumor at the deadline that teams were very interested in trying to steal him from Boston, and the price would have been high

You don't teach confidence, it is earned on the ice. Lohrei's confidence this year has grown immensely along with his skills. Sure, he is still making mistakes due to his growth needs in defense, but if you can't see how his puck handling on offense is one of the best on this team, I don't want to argue with you. He is already schooling NHL players with his moves...saying he should be sent back to AHL is...just...wrong

And if he had more quality players to pass it to, some of those errant passes wouldn't be missed. I guarantee you after games in his mind he is frustrated with the lack of skill around him.

I also guarantee other teams were trying to steal him from Sweeney...good on him to not allow it. Now sign him to a LT contract please...I want his jersey. He knows he has to get stronger and meaner and I expect that to happen, hopefully into next year.

Sure, you can talk about Carlo and his +/- rating, but he was soooo predictable with his clear-the-zone-moves by sending it along the boards that teams knew to cover the boards and it would come to them. I liked Carlo but Lohrei is a different league...sign him please!

Love it. He’s also starting to use his size on the walls - bullied Foegele the other night.

And I already have his jersey - my kids got it for my last Christmas. They get me 😎

Would you do 6x6 now kind of like what Ottawa has done in the past? even 6x7
I personally would because I think he outplays that contract. But I don’t think there is a need for either side to lock down in that range right now. No rush there, unless Lohrei wants to make sure he’s guaranteed $30M and takes 6x$5M.

I don’t know how anyone watches him play and doesn’t see what he’s turning into.

If I am going to 6 milion, I probably need to get to 8 years. 6X5 , I can probably get to. It will be a lot cheaper over the course of 5 years than it will be if you go 2X3.5, and then have to resign him after.

Of course it also depends on what you are doing with the money. If you are getting a Marner than you may not be able to afford to lock up Lohrei long term. On the other hand there are very few UFA of any value available this summer (and the number will drop before July). I'd rather overpay Lohrei for a long term deal than give the money to Ryan Donato, or one of the mid 30s guys who is gonna want to get paid for 4-5 years

I don’t think Lohrei takes 6x$5M. Good case of when a bridge makes sense for both sides

Yeah I’d like him to be playing like 25 min a night in all situations from now until the end of the year.

Ride him for 2 reasons

A) first and foremost get him as much experience/development as possible

B) the first round pick will improve

He’s still a huge part of the future to me and I do think he’s gonna end up being a huge defenseman with the ability to put up 60 points and QB a PP

I wouldn’t. The kid hasn’t shown he can be a competent NHL defenseman yet. Until then, he’s a sheltered, 3rd pair, PP specialist. I’d offer 2 years @ 2.5m.

I’m not a fan of paying for promise. I prefer bridges until you prove it, then market value.

That’s my concern with Lohrei—he's not yet up to the level required for a responsible defenseman. He has made progress during the season but has a lot of defensive development ahead. Hope he gets there soon.

He played 20 minutes or more 10 times until the end of January. Since then, he’s played 20 or more in 15 out of 19 games, and 24 minutes 6 times. Getting valuable minutes, though he is paired with one of the worst defensemen in the NHL.
