Absolutely no to trading Klefbom unless it's in a package for a legit top pairing dman.

Can someone give me an idea of why Klefbom is so highly rated? I don't get a chance to see any SEL games over here, but his stat lines really aren't anything to write home about...

Why is he touted as the next savior?

I should add that I believe the hype enough to have acquired him in my ESPN keeper league.

Klefbom is the complete package when it comes to skill set, plain and simple. Size, excellent skating (both agility and straight away speed), very active stick (but controlled, doesn't take bad penalties), plays physical. Above average shot, but the offensive instincts aren't always active.

I think a good comparable is Petry minus all the horrible decisions on breakout plays. Klefbom can actually make a breakout pass. You eliminate the horrible giveaways with Petry and you'd have a very good defenceman. Klefbom should be this, and I'd actually like to see him paired with Petry, and Smid with J Schultz.

Thanks, Roof Daddy! That makes it a lot clearer.

A Petry without the brainfarts would indeed be a good addition.

So, the picture I'm getting here a positionally sound D-man with a sprinkling of offensive upside. Probably not a great asset to have in an offense-based fantasy pool

I'm wondering if Klefbom won't be Adam Larsson 2.0... he was also very highly touted (and I believed the hype) and he's had a fairly "lukewarm" transition to the NHL level of play. Not saying he's terrible but people probably (unrealistically) expected more from him.

Expected for dmen but realistically it will likely be several years before Klefbom makes a positive impact on the Oilers blueline. Probably looking at a Smid like trajectory for his career... could be 4-5 years before he becomes a solid dman who looks like he definitely belongs in the top 4 on a regular basis.

I'd ship musil out first myself but I doubt anyone would be that interested in him anyway at this point. His ceiling's very low.

I think this is pegging order in OKC next season

Fedun
Marincin
Klefbom
Teubert
Gernat

Teubert needs to clear waivers so he is not in the list since he is either in bigs or within the other organization. So he will get immedatelly top4 minustes. We have good chance to develop him.

I have followed him since he enter Oil Kings line up. I try to keep going this thread hopefully we ca share our thoughts here:handclap:

Is there room for him in the AHL or does he go back to junior to play a full season?

I don't think there's any way him or Musil make the OKC roster this year. Assume Belov and Grebeshkov make the EDM roster, that leaves:

Larsen
Potter
Marincin
Klefbom
Fedun
Davidson
Hunt
Leach

all of whom are probably going to be above Gernat/Musil.

In related news that is a really impressive AHL defense assuming it stays like that.

He'll be signed. He's a solid prospect with a ton of upside. He needs some time though, and that was known when he was drafted, so there is little chance of him no being signed I think.

Gernat can play a year in junior as an over ager, no? That might be the best option. Let him work on his balance and defensive play for another year in the WHL. Probably a better option than the ECHL for him.

No way Gernat plays in the WHL, you don't use up 1 of 2 import and 1 of 2 overagers on the same player.

Put Gernat and Musil in the ECHL so they don't get overwhelmed, the former isn't defensively responsible enough for the AHL and the latter needs to learn how to skate better than Alex Plante.
