Confirmed with Link: Martin Biron is joining Sabres broadcast crew

Great news. He should mesh much better with Duff than May ever did. Every time May spoke, Duff would stare into the camera with a look that said, "I know, and I'm very sorry, but there's nothing I can do."

Marty is a fun addition, and losing May is addition by subtraction.

I thought Duff and May worked fine together. I don't think they canned May because of his performance, more that he's a carpetbagger, lives in Cali I think, while Marty's part of the community year round and he is very well liked.

What's the word on what happened with May? Is it the commute from Cali or was there something else there?

Love it! Ray is better when he's the third voice as well.

Is that going to be the setup? Biron traditional color and Ray third man between benches?

This suggests that Biron will be the pre-game, intermission and post-game analyst with Brian Duff (like May used to be) and that Ray will remain the color commentator for RJ or Dunleavy.

If so, that would work better than if both Biron and Ray were commenting during the action IMO. As funny as their banter as former teammates can get in mocking each other, I don't want the announcers to go off on tangents that have nothing to do with the on-ice action.

I was hoping Biron would be between the benches.

Then during games against the Rangers:

"Hey Lindyyyyyyyyyyy...."

I can’t say I ever wondered what May had to say. It was never interesting.

As suspected.....

The former Buffalo goaltender has been added to the Sabres' broadcast team, replacing the ousted Brad May. Biron will serve as an analyst during the pregame and postgame shows, plus the intermission segments. The 40-year-old will occasionally provide in-game analysis and do features for Sabres.com.

May, another former Sabres player, joined Buffalo's broadcast team in 2013-14. Unlike Biron, May's roots are elsewhere. He has a home in California and would commute to games.

A call to May was not immediately returned.

Wouldn't be Buffalo sports as of late without some sort of controversy.

I like Marty a lot though. Even if he can be a bit chatty.

marty has some extremely bad opinions about hockey, but he certainly does have a personality

it's a wash

Was never a fan of May doing any of the commentary, so now the news is even better.

You know that firing a guy and upgrading his spot isn't a controversy,

It's life.

So, I don't know if May's firing fits with what I've heard, but it sounds like there is sort of a "cult of Pegula" type clean out going on. Kind of, you better be a family/church/wholesome personality to fit in, and if you weren't, you were getting the axe regardless of how good you were at your job. Makes me pretty uncomfortable.

Yeah it's a real shame when you have to feel uncomfortable about hypothetical scenarios you invented yourself just so you can maintain an agenda.
