hahahah - I'm not confused, just amazed that folks think they know what the coaching staff say and state with definitive fact that it was a set play ..What were you so confused by?
Agreed it would be a waste. That’s why they shoukd have moved him while they had the chance. If they give him 8 years 12-12.5 we are screwed. That will be way worse then him walking for free.I don’t think he’s a player we can’t do without. I just think losing him to UFA for nothing is shitty. I also think our window to move off him and not have it be so risky has closed. Now walking from him is a huge risk, I’m not saying it can’t or won’t pan out but you even have to admit it’s a ton of uncertainty.
Perfectly timed terrible take as always. You're consistent, I'll give you that. Its quite shocking how little Marner creates offensively. Even im a little shocked how bad hes been this year.
Sure, ill give him credit for his defensive play but offensively its very bad for an 11 million dollar player.
It was obviously a set play, they run set plays many times a game. You shouldn’t be amazed that people know this, pretty much everyone would know this.hahahah - I'm not confused, just amazed that folks think they know what the coaching staff say and state with definitive fact that it was a set play ..
regardless, mm had a clear shot with net showing and chose to pass ... is that 2 games in a row? as I said, thankfully knies buried it ...
anyhow, have a good evening.. cheers
If that’s the case you can bet he won’t do that nonsense again. Working hard on the wall hurts to muchGot chopped in the neck and didn’t fall like he got shot too lmao
Another one here that hates it when a player of ours makes a good play, what kind of fan are you?If that’s the case you can bet he won’t do that nonsense again. Working hard on the wall hurts to much
Updated. Tavares now has 1 less point, and 1 more 5 on point than Marner.Tavares has 2 less points than Marner, and the same 5 on 5 points despite averaging 5 less minutes overall, and 3 less at ES. Marner's also getting more favorable OZ starts. Yet I hear Tavares is washed, and Marner is continuing to grow and has been amazing? If JT is done, what does that say about Marner whose getting outproduced by JT?
It's always an injury for Marner, or linemates not helping him. Have to feel for him. All problems come to him.
Weird flex.Updated. Tavares now has 1 less point, and 1 more 5 on point than Marner.
Any thing to attack Mitch..Weird flex.
In fairness it’s a two way street and there’s fans that like Marner and there’s fans that like Nylander it’s weird they can’t like both as I do though I obviously lean to the Willy side I’m still a Marner fan just hope he doesn’t take us to the cleaners againAnother one here that hates it when a player of ours makes a good play, what kind of fan are you?
Afan of winning a Stanley Cup, perhaps? Guess you missed the playoffs, especially the last few, when Marner has been called out by former players, the media, fans, and even his own management for not being nearly good enough.Another one here that hates it when a player of ours makes a good play, what kind of fan are you?
Everyday i pray for a marner trade amenAfan of winning a Stanley Cup, perhaps? Guess you missed the playoffs, especially the last few, when Marner has been called out by former players, the media, fans, and even his own management for not being nearly good enough.
Couldn’t be fans on this board tired of seeing the same thing in the playoffs, right?
If this small Marner Fan Club were Panthers fans, they would've thought 115 point Huberdeau should never been traded—and you’d be calling anyone who thought he should be “not a real fan.”
If he’s not gonna be fair in the negotiation room then sure but not trading him just to trade him thoughEveryday i pray for a marner trade amen
Tsn panel and Berube each praised Matthews for the play and neither mentioned Marner.that face off play was a thing of beauty honestly
Everyday i pray for a marner trade amen
You’re looking at an isolated play not the big picture. 9 years of Mitch is enough for meAnother one here that hates it when a player of ours makes a good play, what kind of fan are you?

Mostly assists.Marner will be the top guy in points when the season is over. I expect a fantastic year once he gears up.
Still not sure if i want him on the team. Feels wierd.
Aren't you the one who keeps saying that NMC's aren't an issue when it comes to trading players? The Huberdeau and Marner situations are not the same and you continuously reference it. Huberdeau was not walked to free agency and he didn’t have an NMC blocking a potential move. You are so irrational and you cannot think clearly when it comes to Marner. I don’t think there is anyone here who believes the organization should blindly resign Marner. But people are thinking logically about the situation.
1. Is trading Marner an option right now? No, so you cannot pull a Florida move. That option left with the wind two years ago so why are we still crying about it?
2. Does this years free agency crop have proven playoff performers who come at a fraction of the cost of one Marner at 12.5 conservatively? - the answer is no for the most part. There’s Bennett and Ekblad. However the problem with UFA is it’s a market and it’s volatile. There is zero guarantee for ROI and is one of the more risky options in pro sports generally. This UFA crop is very weak, many of the top guys have been resigned.
Other factors:
- more control of getting players you want in a trade vs free agency
- letting Marner walk is good in theory but with 22 million you better be damn sure your replacements are good otherwise this team is screwed
- letting him walk and using the cap space to acquire a young talent would be amazing but would cost us some future draft capital. With the cupboards bare, how smart of a decision is that?
- what days do GM’s typically make their biggest mistakes? trade deadline and UFA
- what are the chances Rantanen would sign here? I’d say low. Even if he does that would be an amazing upgrade, but he’d cost more than Marner and those that say we lack depth scoring would complain that our cap structure is even worse.
When I say I want Marner resigned it isn’t some blind love for the guy. It’s with all the points listed above in mind. As I go through each option it comes down to keeping Marner vs hedging on middle aged ufas. I have yet to see a team in the cap era win by building through UFA so I’ll lean towards the safer less volatile option. If Marner wants to accept a trade that would be the best option.
So you can scream and shout about Huberdeau and Florida all you want. It’s not the same thing.
Also our best defensive forward.Marner will be the top guy in points when the season is over. I expect a fantastic year once he gears up.
