Bruins are not adding to Swayman for Marner lol.
Well, you do have to even out salaries.

I feel like Poitras is too much an add from the Bruins side, but if this were to go down, Swayman is not enough to nab Marner IMO, especially given the impass the Bruins are facing.

I was initially doing Swayman + Frederic + ?.

Poitras being too much to add is putting it lightly. Boston has adds because of cap reasons but Toronto isn't getting the pending UFA here. So Toronto should be the team adding futures

There's also the fact that 1RW is likely the position that the Bruins need the least, haha.
I think we are talking skilled enough players that handedness wouldn't really get in the way of stacking a 1st with Marner and Pasta. Nor is attempting to build two 1st lines problematic IMO.

In itself it isn't, but when you look at their goalie situation without Swayman, virtually no amount of scoring will help.

Trade value aside, I don't know if the Bruins even could fit Marner's next cap hit under the cap if they wanted to (which they probably don't since they already have one winger making 8 figures). Marchand, Geekie, Frederic, & Lohrei will all likely be due for decent raises -- and it's not like they have that many awful cap dumps that they'd want to ship out (other than Korpisalo who they'd apparently be riding with if they traded Swayman).

There’s people who are going to be severely disappointed with the return (if Swayman ends up traded) if they actually think the Bruins could get Mitch Marner straight up for him… and I’m not talking about adding things to make the cap work. In no hockey world ever, is Swayman anywhere near worth the value of Marner.

The Bruins may even have to add to get a player like Hayton from Utah, included in any package with a goalie and a pick.

No matter how much fans pretend, there’s not a manager in the NHL who puts Swayman in the elite category with Shesterkin, Vasilesky, etc. Maybe if he gets out of the system and shows he can carry a team in stretches, that opinion will change. Until then, it matters. It’s part of how he’s judged.

I like him a lot and don’t think he’s just a product of the system, but we’re not being honest if we don’t think it helps him quite a bit. We can count on one hand, Swayman ever standing on his head to win games. He’s just never really been asked to. He would be in Utah, LA, Detroit, etc.

Boston isn’t the only team who’s not willing to go over $8 million for him, which is going to effect the amount of teams bidding for him, and it’s for the same exact reason. Adin Hill won a Cup, looking just as good as Swayman has ever looked playing in that system, and nobody was lining up Brinks trucks to his house last summer.

You just can’t ignore the system he plays in front of.

Marner could simply be a 1 year rental in the end, though he'd still get a hefty return at the trade deadline.

We are at a point right now where their values are at their most similar.
