The tax situation has been talked about for a long time. Including for other teams like Dallas with Seguin taking less than Tavares...the tax situation IS a variable that’s taken into account, not the only one obviously, but it’s a thing.

I see all the leaf fans have their excuses in line for when no other team signs players for anywhere NEAR the overpayments we gave Nylander, Matthews and will give Marner.

Marner is a man of the people. Imperfect player, small for NHL hockey but with great skill and heart. He's more lovable for it.

Please Mitch be easy on us. It is for your best interests.

When I tried saying that tax matters in the main forums, I got shot down by fans of pretty much every team in the league, regardless of their tax situation.

It really does feel like this is something leaf fans (and ONLY leaf fans) are saying to try and rationalize Dubas' dramatic overpayments.

Bob McKenzie says it matters, along a bunch of other media guys. Its pretty well known its why Jagr signed in Dallas and Florida too when he came back to the NHL.

Ok I'll give it to you, the tax situation isn't fair, Leafs get the short end of the stick and that justifies the overpayments Toronto has to give out.

No, it just makes things worse as Canadian teams take in Canadian dollars at the gate, and pay the players American greenbacks. The Canadian dollar is worth much less than the American dollar at the moment.

But THEN something changed. Leafs fans FINALLY showed they were fed up. They started booing the team after a lacklustre effort. They started throwing f***ing jerseys on the ice. This once storied franchise became the joke of the universe. And, yes, also the waffles.

And THATS when things started to change. THATS when mlse finally accepted a full top to bottom rebuild. I’d make the case that the waffle and jersey throwing were the BEST things to happen to this franchise since 1967. The waffle is the SYMBOL of standing up to this evil corrupt organization. So I’m PROUD if my username.

Who knew all of that would be thrown away by a rookie gm that DRAMATICALLY overpaid all of our young stars.

Serious question. You put on the GM hat. How do you force players to take less on their contracts? Sit them out? Trade them? Because I don't believe for a second he wanted these dollar figures that they signed for. Shanahan is your boss and has to sign off on either a trade, signing, or sitting them out as he's the overseer. He has the final say. Pridham is the cap guy and handles the numbers aspect.

So who is really blame?
