It’s a pretty crazy accomplishment to be honest. Not just that he’s the fastest but that he beat the previous record by so many games. Just an extremely talented player. He’s a bit of a polarizing player with his off script comments at times and his lack of playoff success but all it takes is one deep run to put all of that to rest. He’s clearly the straw that stirs the drink in Toronto imo even with Matthews on the team.

Good for the kid, but the sad fact is if they lose in the first round again this year the fan base will go rabbid on is ars.
He has 50 points in 57 playoff games. Matthews, Nylander, Tavares have less points.
He had a bad playoffs last year. It happens. Datsyuk had multiple years of playoff no shows. JT Miller had 3 goals in 66 career playoff games before he came to us and people love saying he’s a playoff type guy.
Marner is 22nd in active playoff PPG in the NHL and the list has guys with a lower sample size like Jack Hughes and Tyler Bertuzzi who have played less than 15 playoff games higher on that list.
I hate the Leafs but this whole Marner/playoffs thing is an absolute joke and there are 31 other teams that would love to have Marner.

This team has always struggled to score playing "playoff hockey". Every year, they come in playing their usual game and by the end of the series the team had reverted to some trap type game winning tight games for the most part before eventually losing trying to win 1-0. They didn't know how to play it and Mitch looked the most lost in that system out of any other guy. His scoring in elimination games shows that.
Berube running this system for 82 games is the only hope we have that when the time comes, they are used to scoring goals in that system. Marner is having a career year playing this way, despite the entire team having scoring way down having them middle of the pack, down massively from their usual top 5 appearances.
Between the system change and a contract year, if it was ever going to happen in Toronto it's this year. I think everyone understand fairly or not they gotta make changes if it doesn't happen and Mitch is the easiest guy to change. As another poster said, all you have to do is do it once and narratives change.

People can't just appreciate what the guy did, if he breathes a certain way people will talk about the teams playoff struggles.

His stats are lower in close out games. They (the Leafs) simply have not gotten it done yet. Please, have him. Couldn’t care less. His playoff performances have been gutless, especially for how much money he is asking for.
Matthews will hold (and smash) Sundin's goal record.
