Another monster like Douglas.

"Dubas has no clue.....he only likes small guys."

I mean....do some people even research/think before they post?

If Dubas still signing players for Marlies shouldn't that worry you?

I'd be more worried if he is hiring people who don't have a similar vision or he doesn't trust their judgment.

I assume most teams view their farm team as a feeder system for the NHL, so you'd want someone to sign players who can play for the big club one day.

Giving Douglas an ELC is his doing though, no?

Dubas has never been scared of big players, from what I can tell, he just doesn't like big useless players.

Ryan Hardy, he’s the one who signed Douglas to AHL deal and then this guy. I think Douglas has an NHL Two way deal now but I can’t remember.

A lot of people are giving Dubas the credit but Hardy has made some interesting Marlies signings the last year. We’ll see if any of these guys pan out.

Bobby McMann is also an interesting player. College player who took a couple years to find his way, but that was during the pandemic so navigating that during the past couple years hasn't been easy.

Scouting reports on him are good.
Includes: Fluid skater that has room to improve near the top of his acceleration to become more explosive.

He's on the older side for a prospect, but again COVID has played a part.

But another mention about skating being an asset.

6'1", 203 lbs.

There's a season for everything... the signing of undrafted free agents from junior and college hockey takes place in the gap between regular season's end and the entry draft. Anyway, the Marlies and Growlers rosters would be someone else's focus. I'm sure that Dubas is squarely on the draft and upcoming NHL free agency right now.

Even if one of Douglas or McMann can become an NHL'er on the fourth line that would help. We need to start investing in our AHL team like we did in 2017/18

Whats the story with Ian Scott ?
Is he still part of the leafs organization?

I know he's been battling injuries for a while now

Injuries have really hurt him. 7 games in two years is not good for his development. Maybe he can be a late bloomer but would be shocked to see him in the next few years in the NHL.

Why would any signing worry anyone?

How about the fact that most people need to be vetted by their bosses? It's basically an organizational decision.

I wouldn’t be against see a young energy 4th line with McMann - Douglas - Steeves

Might be possible for season 22-23 or more likely 23-24. Hopefully Steeves is ready and we can start from there.

I can see McMann and Steeves being ready with Douglas being a call up later on in the regular season.

We have better guys than McMann right now, but if the guys struggle and he finds a niche, he could be something next year. Crazy that last year he wasn't even good enough to be a depth guy in the AHL. Now he may be an NHL depth guy.

Douglas still needs a full year before he starts getting call ups. Right now being a big body is the only thing that makes him stand out. Needs more refinement, but he did look pretty good for a 22 year old.

Yeah, it would be nice to have 4th line from the AHL that is capable of playing in the big leagues. That would mean also ability for some to play in the second PK / second PP unit and some to have to physical presence. In best case players would have potential to become 3rd or 2nd liners in more distant future.

Will be seen, Engvall is example of this kind of player and Johnsson was also. Hopefully we can promote some Marlies that will help us forward on the ice and with the cap.

I think Holmberg is potential 4th line player for next season, if we could promote him after next season and bring up Douglas we could try to push Kampf out with internal competition.

In this phase this is more dream than reality.

Holmberg is a bit of a mystery box when it comes to playing in NA, though he certainly has a track record that you'd hope would see success here. Then we have Andersen who really needs to be competing for a spot now... Seney as well if he's brought back. Steeves and Abruzzese should be in the mix as well. The problem here is I've listed two guys at 5'9", two at 5'11" and only Andersen is 6'. Height and size isn't everything, but you need a balance and some size in the lineup.

Well, if they can bring some beef, skate, and have some hands that might be an improvement over some waterbugs who look nice but have no impact.

Id prefer guys who can actually make an impact at all.

We've employed far too many guys who are supposed to bring size or energy and barely even bring that.

When exactly was the last time we've had a small guy who "looked nice and brought no impact"?

When's the last time a small guy made the bottom 6 and did anything?

Trevor Moore... and he was pretty much the last smaller guy we've used besides Blackwell.

Since then, we have been using larger guys who are like Mikheyev and Engvall and play well on a shutdown line, or larger guys like Simmonds or Clifford or Foligno or Thornton who don't look good and make our 4th line pretty much unplayable.

Id rather have a 4th line of Trevor Moore's. At least that would give something for other teams to worry about.

Not sure a 7-9 goal scorer concerns other teams, but yes I'd rather give a 23-24 year old Marlie with expected upside the minutes (if they don't get buried) than someone on a huge downslide of their career. At least to start the season and to invest in them. You can always chicken out nearer the playoffs if no progress has been made and put in the olde farts.
