Defering to him was the safe play where now he really doesn't have anybody to play with so he almost has to do it himself.

Thats a good point. He was never going be the guy with Smith there, but now is the #1 here and excelling.

Flash from the past, "Peter Mueller". That was the kid who was matching Jonathan Toews shootout goal for shootout goal back in the WJHC was it not? What a complete bust he turned out to be
 
Man I look like such an idiot souring on Kral at the beginning of this season. I know there's receipts of me gushing over him before the 2018 draft and after it too. It just seemed like the guy stagnated.The Leafs although they signed him didn't think he was worth sending to the ECHL/AHL yet, and sent him back to junior for an over ager season. Most of us realized that slight production bump was because he was too good for the WHL already. Seeing him do well in the Czech2 (another junior league), and then getting absolutely shit pumped in the Czech league at first made me believe it even more.

Sure I warmed back up as soon as the going got good again (almost a positive rel.CF% with >40% OZS), but even then the production wasn't there. Sure he's on a horrible team, but even then he's shut me up. The guys having himself a season and I'm definitely back on that bandwagon.
 
Kral is really coming on. Is he a similar tier prospect to Niemala/Kokkonen or no?

Curious to how some of you would rank the following:

Lol for a second I mixed him up for Marcel Mueller who played a few games for the Leafs.

I think Kokkonen and Niemela are better, but I think the upside is around the same. 2nd pairing all around defenceman.

Aside from Rasanen, all of our D prospects have taken a step forward. Funny enough, all those D prospects who have improved are Dubas moves.
 
You want to see how bad Kral's team is. His CF% was actually less then 50% this game, so it dropped his season CF% a bit, but his overall Rel CF actually went up almost a whole point as a result of today's game from -0.42 to now +0.40. That shows how badly dominated his team was today. Kral literally won them the game today.

I’ve been on the Kral train since we drafted him. Dude just has NHL written all over him.

might not even be that top 3 defender, but a guy you just love to have as a 5th defender
 
Just one or two of these guys has to turn into a Justin Holl by 25 to keep the defense cost effective, anything on top of that is gravy.

I can see the Leafs trading Engvall for Seattle to take Holl instead of Kerfoot/Dermott. We'd get like a 7th in return or something.

It would suck to lose Engvall, but we have so many wingers coming up (Korshkov, Malgin, etc.) and I think we can find some guys to replace him both now and in the long term. Seattle may be interested in a younger winger with upside but can fit nicely into their bottom 6 right away.

Or the Leafs could just let Seattle take Kerfoot or Dermott.

I'm not a big Holl guy. I know a lot of people around here like him but I didn't think he looked all that great away from Muzzin. Hopefully we can pump him with Muzzin this year and have Seattle take him. I think sticking Liljegren beside Muzzin would do wonders for Liljegren and it's what most other teams do with their young D - they stick them with a solid vet.

I think the issue with him was when he was away from Muzzin, it was not like his role decreased with it. He's not a top pairing guy, but was asked to play a top pairing role without a top pairing partner.

Not exactly a recipe for success.

Still a great bargain at 2 mill if he can repeat it though. You don't find many guys like him making 2 mill, even in this climate.

germany and sweden games are cancelled due to positive COVID tests in players and staff. Exhibition shortened to 2 days: today and tomorrow. Russia plays tomorrow and all teams play only 1 game.
