Prospect Info: Marlies & Prospect Discussion

There are a few that can do it. Solow, Benning, Grebenkin, Rifai, Webber is a big boy. I think the return of Dakota Mermis should help it along.
I guess. Solow can lose his cool, Grebs maybe but he’s a bit more of a face masher. Generally pretty gentle physical guys.
Cliffy on the other hand…..will take on a whole team.

Quick summary of Marlies tilt Wednesday.

Goaltending was the downfall in a 6-3 loss. AA started and let in 3 in 7 before getting the hook. Been struggling awhile, particularly with early goals. MM relieved him and was better but not ‘dig out of a hole’ lot better.

Offense had plenty of shots. Peppered 39 of em.

At least the goals were of the prospect variety.

Mints and Grebs both with a goal and an assist in the first two periods. Pretty non-descript after. Jake Quillan had the orher goal…getting on the scoresheet much more regularly past 10 games or so. Mikko Kokkonen had a pair of apples, Benning and Nylander has one each.

Marlies in Syracuse tonight. Ryan Tverberg is due I’d say….I’ll call a two point night for him? Be interesting to see if they go back to AA.

This is the start of a 10 game road trip for the Baby buds that finishes Feb 1st. Long rough stretch. Next home game Feb7, after the all-star break.

Cinci Cyclones played Wednesday too.

Squeezed out their fourth straight win, 1-0. Kressler with the goal. He’s cooking down there, and team fortunes picked up since his arrival. Maybe he’ll win himself and MVP if this all continues.

Peksa/Voit dnp.

Anyone have any insight into the KHL trio, anyone watch?

All of Kara (26) Kizimov (24) and Der-Arguchintsev (24) are all around or over 0.5ppg in the KHL. No mean feat.

Any of them have designs on trying or returning to NA? All I know about the first two is that they’ve got good enough size, are both left shot RW’s and remember reading that they skate at least fine to well. SDA was a smart pick who went back home and who at least would make a #2C in the A if he were around.

Any updates on them?

A.A got injured at that game, he could barely walk up the stairs to the dressing room, maybe Peksa gets some time in the A now.

SDA can make more money in the K than in the A, and he'll never be an NHL regular at his size. He's Janni Gourde without the snarl. And lets face it...if you're under 5'10 in this league without any physicality, you better be the 2nd coming of Martin St. Louis...and he definitely ain't that.

Forget about these guys, time to cross them off your Leafs prospect list.

Kressler is someone I see in the mould of Marchment/McMann...not in play style but in who might see small incremental progress each year. Where others ahead of him have washed out, at 25/26 he's slowly trucking along and knocking at the door as a late blooming role player.

I’m not sure I buy that narrative, I think he’s in that same class of player as Bunting or Steeves. If someone gave him legit rope with legit wingers, he’s a viable third liner. Some take it make it and run, some don’t.
More money in the K than the A…..yeah, for sure.

Why dismiss them out of hand?
They’re at the age where lots of later bloomers take off in the KHL.
If guys with their numbers were undrafted FA’s….they’ve produced enough that they’d conceivably get contract offers.

But in any case, I’m asking if anyone has watched them? Or heard any rumblings about their desire to try/return to NA hockey?

For sure. He’s on the right trajectory. Maybe more of a Trevor Moore type. He’s got a lil grit, some skill, some defensive acumen, and some versatility.

Also seems like he’s been around forever, so it’s hard to remember it’s just his first pro year.
