Hirvonen, we'll see. But I don't know many NHLers who regressed in the AHL, do you?
You mean like Marchment, who made no progress?

For crying out loud, you complain we give up too quick, and then want to give up on 22 year olds. Most importantly, we also don't have much coming up, and need AHL players... why give up on these guys, if they are moving forward? Tverberg I think you be patient with... again we need decent AHL players as well...

Marchment made progress...that was the point. Did you miss that?

So... you want to give up on Tverberg, who is 22 years old, who has been dealing with injuries, and then a couple of pages later complain we give up on players too soon?

You also want to give up on Hirvonen, who is also 22, who has shown improvements.

Do I think they'll amount to much... odds are against it, but as you say... some mature later... and most importantly, they are decent mid AHL lineup players for now, and help the Marlies... the Marlies will still need players, and they are contributing.
Haley flat out said Hirvonen will play in the NHL....us or elsewhere

He plays fast and you can see the skill, but he's all perimeter and the production just isn't there. He was doing better than last season but now he's injured again I believe.

Maybe he can carve out a Carcone type of development where he takes a little longer to cook? I'd be shocked if he ever gets a shot with the Leafs.

I'd be playing the F out of Ahkymanov....Murray is such a waste of time at the NHL / AHL level right now.
I mean, credit where credit is due for MM.

Couple cups, and putting in the work in the A is a good guy in my mind.

My thoughts as well.
Good AHL’ers are good outcomes out of the draft too.
Want the organization strong and winning and developing and competing all the time.

Don't see any future for him in Toronto then.
There’s interesting guys on the right side, but still a ways to go. The best ones shoot left….compounding your point. Even at the NHL level you have NickRob in his off wing, McMann at times, and a couple capable LWers who get reps at C.
Organizationally, it’s noticeable. But given that 2/3 of NHLers are left shots, something has to give.
If there’s a way to translate that into a better C situation then I’m all for it.
On D, there’s actually a bit of a glut on the pro side, just all with similar upsides.

Bigly progress... from 26 points in 44 games in 17/18, to 25 points the following year in the same number of games. Did you miss that gigantic progress?
2 more goals in the regular season and 2 less points in 7 less games in the post season. Coaching staff was raving about him.

It comes down the hypocrisy of the statements. You are talking talking about progress, for having two more goals in the regular season, while scoring one less point.. but then aren't willing to give a 22 year old the chance who has one less point, in ten less games... then you go on to talk about post season, but don't want to give our current prospects the benefit of the post season.

I mean, this is just silly crap. Hirvonen's progress will be far more than Marchment did... while Marchment also had the benefit of being a year older than Hirvonen is currently.

If you are going to complain about Marchment being let go prematurely, then surely you would have similar views to letting a 22 year old go... or maybe we just like complaining, and spinning stuff... I don't know.

Uh, no. Marchment was genuinely known to be improving every year and was exceeding expectations. Hirvonen has been known to be falling short of expectations.

Get it?

I'm happy to hold onto him one more year.

Not that I believe in Hirvonen as an NHLer but I think you hold onto him for a few more years because there's no real pressure point to cut bait. I don't see a breakthrough one year from now.

It sucks cause I think he's an NHL player, but he's not a guy you can plug into the bottom 6 like McCann or Moore and still show out. He needs skilled players to play with, but you need to work your way up to that if you're not a top pick/prospect.

He needs to go to a team like Anaheim, Chicago or San Jose and get a chance to fight for a spot in there middle 6's

Honestly he's been a good soldier, I'd be willing to move him somewhere so he gets an opportunity, even if it's just as a throw in on a bigger deal

Anyone notice that Holinka sequence last night where he lost his stick?
Threw his body around like he was shot out of a cannon to attempt blocks, ending up with him drop kicking a puck out of the air to the neutral zone to relieve pressure.
Dude left it all out there.

Agreed. It's not like we have other prospects who will be jumping in taking contract slots. Pare and Mattinen likely go unsigned which leaves space for new guys.

I'd resign all of Steeves, Hirvonen, Niemela, Villeneuve and Kokkonen. I'd probably let Abruzzese walk though at this point. Unsure on Webber - but can't see the organization giving up on him so early.

Webber is already signed through next year and on a one way, as is Rifai and now Myers, so we have 8 D under NHL contract next year, plus Timmins as an RFA.
