Cowan played as if he forgot what got him drafted that high to begin with. Hr played very perimeter, no check no backcheck, tried to stickhandle through the entire team and take the worst possible shots. Was really disappointed. On another note Canada hockey has really digressed over the last 5 years. The US is the new hockey powerhouse.

It is interesting, Cowan was probably a victim of trying to push to hard to make something happen last night. Meanwhile you had other players just completely no show and do absolutely nothing. Cowan didn't have a great game and was forcing it...but there was a handful of absolute passengers out there that because they didn't look like they wanted anything to do with the puck at all are completely escaping any of the blame lol

I don’t think it’s Cowan specifically as much as it is the team that’s constructed which is the issue. They all seem a bit cocky coming into this and they got humbled last night.
Seems like most of them were trying to showcase their individual skills to scouts and as time progressed one of them wanted to be “the hero”.
The only one who ended up looking good was the Latvian goalie. LOL.
Hopefully that’s a lesson learned.

Yes, Cowan's attempt was bad but like he was the only one. How does no one score in 8 attempts at clean breakaways?
And it's all the same shit - floating in slowly or trying to be pretty to get on the highlights. Latvia's winner was a guy who came in and ripped it from 8 feet away.

Cowan may not have played well but at least the kid was trying to change the trajectory of that game
I'd rather have the guy that's trying to make a difference and failing than the guy who just fades into the background and leaves it to somebody else
Cowan is a teenager, he can continue to build his game and make better decisions at crunch time but the kid has the correct mentality
The good ones want the ball, they want to make a difference so keep the head space but refine the decision making

Hockey Canada is terribly run when it comes to any sort of planning and preparation.
They get bailed out by the fact so many kids in Canada play hockey that the raw talent will always be there

I've been pushing him for a while. The only thing he's lacking is high end skating, but he's a big body who makes really good zone exits with his short area passes and his zone entries are excellent as well.
Agree, but he’s not immobile either. He’s got some chippy in his game too.
If the TO market didn’t shred young D, I could see any of the Marlies top 4 handling 3rd pair duties with vet insulation.
Not likely to occur for a couple reasons, but they could all handle 12-14 mins I think.

I wouldn't be against a bottom pairing of him and Benoit or Rafai at some point in the next few years.
I was a bit concerned about him when the marlies coaching staff didn’t want to use him in the playoffs.
