22. Other stuff: There are lots of rumours about both CHL expansion — particularly to New England, which would be a QMJHL location — or USHL defections. MacKenzie: “There’s some real excitement in our organization and I think in probably other organizations about…what the possibilities for junior hockey in North America could look like going forward. We don't have the answers. We don't know exactly where it's going to go. But I think that there's some real opportunity here. We just have to determine what it looks like.” Sharks in the water.
23. After we interviewed Dan, Michigan State commit Savin Virk joined WHL Tri-City (and scored his first goal). That’s something else we were told to watch: NCAA and CHL joining forces in providing development routes for players. “The Americans are proud to work and partner with Michigan State in the development of Savin Virk,” Tri-City GM Bob Tory was quoted in his team’s release. Welcome to the new world. “(The CHL and NCAA) are going to have to work together a little bit more than they currently do,” MacKenzie said.
24. The best answer from MacKenzie was when he said, “Anybody who says they know what will happen is kidding themselves.” That’s definitely true.
25. Some other fallout to keep an eye on: right now, two NCAA sports allow athletes more than 12 months after high school graduation to enrol in college. Men's hockey and skiing allow until your 21st birthday. Hockey coaches are concerned this could be changed to align with everyone else. They aren’t excited by the idea. And, the various Canadian junior leagues are out for blood with the BCHL.

Back when Willy was drafted 8th overall Don Cherry ranted for a whole segment that they didn't select Nick Ritchie.
Cherry’s biggest beef was Toronto passing on Peterborough Petes winger Nick Ritchie in the first round in favour of Swedish William Nylander at No. 8. The Ducks scooped up Ritchie two picks later.
“They passed on a guy, Nick Ritchie, who is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds [and had] 100 minutes in penalties. Oh, you’re going to say he’s a dummy. Only three guys in the whole draft scored more goals than this guy. And guess who picked him up right after that… Anaheim.”

At the time Ritchie wouldn't have been a bad pick. History has shown the Leafs picked the right guy obviously.
Interesting to look back at that draft when you sort by points.

Interesting that he would mention three players who, between them, had one goal and two assists, but not mention the player who had two goals and one assist.
Right but maybe he doesn’t consider him a leaf prospect

Remember when Wellwood signed with St. Louis but was claimed by San Jose?
Was that because he had played in Russia?

I think Steeves has shown well in the two games.
He's been responsible with the puck, got in on the forecheck, made some nice small area plays.
I am not sure he will be able to get consistent playing time with our squad and if not, some bottom feeder should acquire him and play him with some offensive linemates.

Or maybe it's the name - there are people on yesterday's PGT who mentioned Minten's goal and the two assists by Mitch and JT, but nothing about the best player of the game, who had a goal and and assist.

Man I remember that draft...I really really wanted Draisalt to fall to us and honestly expected it too because of Oiler's miserable drafting history and ruining players
The second one was definitely Point, watching him while looking at Rielly from Moosejaw warriors, and man from then you knew this guy was going to be something good. Pretty sure Diceman and I have been on that hype train for god knows how long. Other were Ehlers and Bennett, and intrigued by Vrana. Time sure flies.
