Marlies, Cyclones, and Prospect Discussion

Any word on whether the league has ruled on whether that kind of path would result in an unsigned player switching to NCAA reserve list timelines?
Nothing official, but it makes complete sense that they should just add 4 years from the time they play their first NCAA season. That's essentially how it's always worked, even when a drafted player plays a year or two (like Joe Miller did) in the USHL or a lower Canadian league. It would keep things on the Same 4-6 year timeline that's occurred to this point.

Toronto Marlies Extend Logan Shaw

2 year contract extension for the Captain

Marlies could be missing the playoffs

Does Steeves come up? Anyone else ?
First, I hope they finish strong.

They’re better than they’ve played the last month.

One potential Black Ace is Cedric Pare. He’s been getting lots of burn up the lineup the last couple of weeks, playing in all situations. Plays a simple, responsible game, good size and speed, C and W.

And then maybe the vets: Reaves, Benning, Murray.

Once playoffs start and there are no roster limits, if the Marlies are out you have to imagine we just flood the locker room

Depth vet
Replacement level players
And give some young guys a taste of the NHL

Reaves, Benning, Steeves, Murray have to be locks imo
Pare, Johnson, Nylander, Mermis, Rifai, Hildeby
Abruzzese, Quillan, Webber, Mattinen

There are a lot of options

Thought Smith was a solid AHL deal candidate, and find an ELC a bit surprising, but maybe guys left in that CHL Market have a bit more leverage since it's so small now and the ones left could commit to the NCAA in their own right. If that's not really a factor, then the org may just be high on him, considering all of the OA's signed last season were AHL deals.

Smith became pretty well-rounded this year. Skates and moves the puck well for a guy who is 6'5" 225 lbs. Been on NHL radars and made it to Red Wings' main camp last year.

I wouldn't be too surprised if he's Cyclones bound next season tbh based on then already for sure having Rifai, Chadwick, Prokop, Webber, Benning, and Sharpe in the mix

Yeah, curious how they choose who to give an NHL deal to and who not
Like why give Smith an NHL deal but Kirwan an AHL? (Different positions and roles, I get it, just in general)
Why did Smith get more money than Prokop on his ELC?

TJ Hughes dreams are over until next year. Returning to Michigan for his senior year.
Drag.
There’s still Quinn Hutson, but Friedman said he had ‘western conference’ interest.
Other guys too. Wouldn’t mind seeing a few more forward adds.

Friedman talked about this. I will send you the link. It explains there is a cap reason for it.

It’s an interesting tidbit

So in summary they can call Haymes and Prokop up in an emergency situation next year and it doesn’t count against the cap because the salary is $100k under the league minimum ?

That’s very beneficial to the players who will get a chance and the leafs who will utilize them when injuries come up
