No need to worry too much.

After starting the season 5-0-1 the Flames have gone 2-5-2. It's the reason Habs fans are starting to panic lol

This a bottom 10 team by most metrics. The standings will eventually reflect that, once the horseshoes fall out anyway.

Just look at wins and losses against teams currently in playoffs and out of playoffs. That's what's most likely coming for the rest of the season.

I loved this trade at the time.

Bahl was a really interesting pick up for me.
This trade is looking like an absolute home run now. Bahl has far exceeded my expectations and virtually replacing what Tanev did 5 on 5.

Bahl was an unknown commodity to me when acquired at least at the NHL level. Of course I knew of his size, draft pedigree, WJC spot, but was unsure how he’d work out in Calgary after some success in a depleted NJ line up.

Even the first few showings I saw weren’t great in my opinion/recollection. I have to say he has upped his game and really can be relied on in the top 4. Guess it took time to shake off his limited camp and get acquainted. Definitely taking the sting off of not having Tanev anymore. Loving his stick work and like how he gets the puck on net quickly hoping to catch the opposition off guard.

Actually fun fact we’ve been statistically unlucky up to this point. For as lucky as we were to start the season 5-0, everything points to us being much more unlucky in the 3-5-2 stretch. Our PK is sitting at 72.3%, and last season it was 80.8, and only one team finished worse last year than our current total. Our PP is sitting at 15.9%, last year it was 17.9 and only 3 teams finished worse. Our shooting percentage is at 9.77, in the bottom 3rd of the league and once again under last years numbers. All this points to the fact that 9-7-3 record is likely reflective of our current play to date, if not slightly under as the special teams pick it up a bit.

To really show how our recent play isn’t indicative at all of our talents, we had a 7.28 shooting percentage, 10% PP, and a 72% PK during that 3-5-2 stretch. None of those are sustainable, and 5 of the 7 losses were still 1 goal games before empty nets.

Statistically that's all irrelevant in the face of the simple fact that last year's team had more talent than this years team.

This team just had 3 somewhat undeserved comebacks against Pittsburgh, Boston, and the Sabres picking up 4 points they didn't really deserve. Really, their record should be 6-8-1 without those horseshoes

That’d be true if you honestly believe we should finish the year with the 2nd worst PK and 4th worst powerplay. I think it’s pretty absurd to believe so, as there are plenty of more hapless teams in either regard than the Flames. For the same reason those stats aren’t ranked that low this season as they would’ve last, stats like those tend to normalize as the season goes and cold stretches and hot stretches hold less value.

Could also say without a bad bounce or two we win those games in OT and shootout (which is ironic, considering we literally lost to Boston off a bad bounce), and even are 9-5-1 to start the year. Random events don’t only favor your view point.

Our PK is surprising but than you consider we lost 3 of our 4 best PK guys. Tanev, Hanifin, Lindholm. And we can’t win a draw which is a huge detriment.

Our goaltending has been excellent and I don’t think we can expect them to be great the whole season.

Our schedule has been microwaved butter soft.

Our PP might get a little better but it just doesn’t have the horses to be any better than 20-25th.

We’ve won a ton of games we’ve been trailing in late.

When we play bottom feeders, it’s usually a close game.

All signs point to this team being really bad.
