Lots of talk last night about Dallas getting lucky in the draft with two late 5th rd picks & yet Ottawa has a couple of their own late picks with Hoffman (5th) & Stone (6th).

Yeesh.

He's probably my favorite player to watch.

Yeah Karlsson is great and there are other players who are better but Stone just steals the pick and makes exciting plays.

Obviously impressed by Stone but what about Hamonic he's top 3 in takeaways and a defensemen. He has more takeaways than giveaways. That's extremely rare for a defensemen to have so many takeaways.

The Islanders in their own arena count way more real time stats then any other arena. Like hits, takeaways and so on.

These stats are not standardly recorded throughout the league like assists are. They vary... But the Islanders stand out with having way more then most other teams.

So while Hamonic might be great at takeaways... I question whether he really should be 3rd in the league.

The Islanders have 3 of the top 9 in hits in the league in 2015/16. The top 2 in 2014/15.

4 of the top 8 in takeaways this year are Islanders.

2014/2015 season (playoffs included) Away Takeaways per 60 - Stone running away with it. Karlsson still top D.

Great job Starling!

And yeah, noticed that Isles boosted real time stats, ridiculous. NHL should visit the person who has the job and give him a real formation.

I am sure the Islanders GM loves negotiating with agents... But Hamonic leads all defencemen in the league in hits, takeaways and blocked shots.... And the two Islanders on their effective crash line crush he league in Hits overall.

Garth Snow must be frustrated on occassion talking to agents.

Yeah, most "real time stats" are bunk.

"Hits" are the worst. Completely unreliable.

You can get a bit better by only looking at away games, though if you are in a division with a team that is particularly trigger happy, it still can result in some significant rink bias.

Anyone else notice how Stone was protecting his right side last night. Lots of one handed (left) rushes; did noty put any weight on the right hand if he could avoid it. Lots of bending over at the waist with right hand tucked under.

He played through it (and scored) but I thought something was not right.
