Marchand for peak, prime and probably career now

From 2017 to 2021 (5 years) he was the 2nd best winger overall after Kucherov in the NHL. He drove the bruins top line and was constantly the best bruin in leaf series in 2018, 2019 and even in 2024 this year despite the falloff in play

2017 - 2nd best winger
2018 - 3rd best winger, 4th if including OV for playoffs after Hall, Kucherov and maybe OV
2019 - 2nd best winger after Kucherov
2020 - 3rd best winger after Panarin and Pastranak
2021 - best winger due to kucherov not playing

2022 - 2024 he fell off pretty quickly and now is a good 1st liner but not a star playey anymore

That 5 year peak with 2019 season peak is better than any 5 year period for Hossa career

Hossa, as someone who saw him play around 200 games live, it’s not close for me, as good as Hossa was on offense, was just as good defensively. Every team he went to, coaches and players alike were, I knew he was real good, but had no idea this good. First ballot HHoF.

One of the best 2-way players to play.

Yah, as Bruins fan I agree. Hossa was a tank.

Marchand is a great defensive player too.

I lean Hossa but it’s far from a landslide.

Peak? Hossa.

Career? Hossa.

Likeability? Hossa.

Fashion? Hossa.

Looks? Hossa.

Don't see an argument for Marchand here.

I mean hell, they even went head to head in the 2013 SCF, and Hossa outperformed Marchand in fewer games when Hossa couldn't even feel one of his feet.

Marchand has the better peak and arguably career.

Hossa cup chased and was a role player in Chicago

I'll agree on the peak but hossa's career is going to be very hard to top.

Yes he was a role player in his last 2 seasons in Chicago but he was easily a top 6 forward his first 6 seasons in the windy city starting at age 31.

As a "role player" those first 6 seasons age 31-37 he was 30th in NHL scoring while getting some really great Selke results for a winger over that time period.

Role player in the sense that he was at best 4th on the importance chart on the Cup teams behind Kane, Toews and Keith.

By that measure Krejci was a ‘role player’ for the Bruins.

Hossa is a member of the Blackhawks core along with Toews, Kane, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook and Hjalmarsson. The guys around those seven 3-cup winners were ‘role players’ of varying levels of importance.

Hossa was a puck possession monster, along with a good shot. Pretty close to an ideal winger in his prime.
